The EUROPARC Federation partners with the Alfred Toepfer Stiftung to promote international cooperation within the European dimension of protected area management. Grants of €3 thousand allow young conservationists to make study visits to one or more protected areas external to their home countries. The study visits should correspond to any of the five themes identified in the announcement. In addition to western Europe, participating countries include Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Georgia, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Russia, Serbia, Turkey, and Ukraine. United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization — Silk Roads Youth Research Grant
UNESCO launches the ‘Silk Roads Youth Research Grant’. The program aims to mobilize young researchers for further study of the Silk Roads shared heritage, and will award 12 research grants to young researchers under 35 years of age. Grant applicants are invited to address areas of academic study which relate to the shared heritage and plural identities of the Silk Roads, including, but not limited to Science and Technology (however, proposed projects must focus on the results of cultural interactions and exchanges). The proposed research may be carried out by an individual researcher or may be part of a group or collaborative project. UNESCO will award 12 grants of US$10 thousand. International Journalists’ Programmes — Fellowship for Climate and Energy Topics
International Journalists’ Programmes (IJP) announces a special fellowship for journalists interested in reporting in the field of climate and energy. Ten journalists, who are granted the climate & energy bursary, will receive training, support, and are welcome to pursue transnational research on a common topic during their fellowship. Each fellow will receive a stipend of €3.800 to help cover travel costs, accommodation and personal expenses. Eligibility extends to journalists working for any print, radio, online or TV media in Germany, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovenia, and Slovakia. Asian Forest Cooperation Organization — Landmark Scholarship Program
The Asian Forest Cooperation Organization (AFoCO) calls for applications for the “2023-2024 Landmark Scholarship Program”. AFoCO will select one candidate for doctoral degree course and three candidates for a master’s degree course. Applicants must be citizens of ASEAN Member Countries, namely Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand or Vietnam. Acumen Academy — Artisanal Fisheries Leadership Program
Acumen Academy and the Environmental Defense Fund launch a Latin American Artisanal Fisheries Leadership Program for Change Agents leading equitable and sustainable fisheries initiatives. The program is open to leaders with at least 5 years of experience leading artisanal fishing organizations or initiatives or within fishing communities. The program offers leadership training and a strong community to develop future projects. The program only accepts applications from change agents from the artisanal fishing industry working in any Latin American country, including Caribbean countries. Earth Journalism Network — Oceanic Crime and Ecoviolence
The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) seeks to support investigations that result in increased reporting about deep blue sea crimes, for example, overfishing, illegal fishing, or transnational violence. EJN can award up to €4000 thousand per investigative project. Applications are open to journalists working in any medium (online, print, television, radio) and other expert media practitioners with professional reporting experience. African Water Association — Scholarships for Water and Sanitation Professionals
The African Water Association awards research scholarships to young African Water and Sanitation Professionals. Each scholarship has a maximum value of US$1,000 and must be used to carry out research work sanctioned by a scientific report on a theme related to the WASH sector. Teach A Man To Fish — School Enterprise Challenge 2023
The School Enterprise Challenge is an international business program for schools run by the educational charity Teach A Man To Fish. It guides and supports teachers and students to plan and set up real, sustainable school businesses and generate real profits to help support their school or a social cause of their choice. Thematic areas include agriculture, drinking water and sanitation, and the environment, among others. Prizes are between US$250 and US$5 thousand, including in-kind donations like laptops and cameras. Please note that only pre-primary schools, primary schools, secondary schools and technical/vocational colleges are eligible (universities are not eligible to apply). The Oak Spring Garden Foundation awards Fellowships in Spring Fellowship in Plant Science Research to one early-career plant scientist, with preference given to scientists working in organismal plant biology. The Explorers Club offers expedition grants to field researchers. Grants can be used to cover fieldwork in biological sciences, archaeology, anthropology, paleontology, earth sciences, ecology, and astronomy. Grants support researchers and explorers from around the world and generally range from US$25 thousand to US$40 thousand.
