The ONE Africa Award honors the exceptional work of individuals and organizations based in Africa to help Africa achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The amount of the award is US$100 thousand, which may be split into more than one prize. Eligibility for the award extends to civil society organizations, non-governmental organizations, and other groups based in Africa that can demonstrate commitment and success in advocacy to promote the attainment of one or more of the SDGs. U.S. African Development Foundation — Africa Entrepreneurship Challenge
The U.S. African Development Foundation (USADF) requests proposals for the USADF Accelerate Africa Entrepreneurship Challenge. Selected African youth and women-led enterprises will receive funding in the form of grant capital of up to US$250 thousand. Projects must be innovative scalable enterprises that address local needs and have an impact on communities and livelihoods. To be considered for the Challenge, applicants must be 100% African-owned and -managed. Applicants must submit the completed application before 30 September 2022. Government of Egypt — ClimaTech Run
ClimaTech is the global competition for tech-entrepreneurs and artists addressing the most pressing climate challenges. ClimaTech focuses on the use of information and communications technology in developing innovative solutions and new applications for climate action in the areas of energy, agriculture, and water management. The grand prize is US$100 thousand. A special prize will be given to the top two African startups. Participants must be a registered startup operating for over 2 years. Global Water Partnership-Caribbean — Youth Workshop Caribbean
The Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C) invites applications to the workshop “To Save the Water…Let’s Talk About Shit”. The workshop will focus on the roles of Youth and the Media in Caribbean Wastewater Management. Participation is open to Caribbean Youth and Journalists residing in Caribbean countries. As part of the workshop, participants will also be given the opportunity to create social media content to raise awareness amongst the wider public. International Fund for Agricultural Development — Indigenous Peoples Assistance Facility 2022
The Indigenous Peoples Assistance Facility aims to strengthen indigenous peoples’ communities and their organizations by financing small projects which foster their self-driven development in the framework of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Focus is climate change adaptation, resilience and biodiversity in/for indigenous peoples’ communities to improve indigenous livelihoods. Proposed project budget requests should range between US$20 thousand and US$70 thousand, and include a minimum contribution by the grant recipient of 20% (cash or in-kind) of the total request. The Smallholder Irrigation Revitalization Program (SIRP) invites proposals from African cooperatives, producer groups, and associations for grant financing and local support for innovative solutions related to irrigation schemes. Alexander von Humboldt Foundation — Georg Forster Research Award
The Georg Forster Research Award supports the work of accomplished researchers who are expected to continue to develop research-based solutions to specific challenges facing transition and developing countries. Nominees must be nationals of a developing or transition country, excluding the People’s Republic of China and India. The award amount is €60 thousand. Additionally, award winners are invited to conduct a research project of their own choosing in Germany in close collaboration with a specialist colleague. To support the collaboration, the Foundation may grant additional funding of up to €25 thousand. SEED — Starter Workshop for Eco-Enterprises in Kenya
SEED offers valuable resources and professional support to expand entrepreneurial ideas while learning from peers during interactive SEED Starter workshops. SEED Starter workshops consist of a team of 2-5 members that bring in a business idea for addressing environmental, social and economic challenges. Successful alumni are invited to apply for a SEED Grant for up to €1,000 which pays for resources required to establish the new enterprise. Genesis Charitable Trust — Grants for Local Sustainable Development
The Genesis Charitable Trust makes grants to help individuals and communities in developing countries to improve their standards of living. The Trust favors projects that aim for long-term income generation and self-sufficiency, especially projects making a positive impact on communities currently beyond the reach of traditional government or market-based solutions. Past projects include examples in small-scale agriculture, renewable energy, and fisheries — among other focus areas. The Trust does not set a minimum or maximum grant value, although grants generally do not exceed US$300 thousand per project. Grants are restricted to nonprofit organizations in eligible developing countries, or applicants that are associated with nonprofit organizations from the UK, US, Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand or Singapore.
