SDSN Youth mobilizes youth to the forefront of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by connecting young people to pathways of understanding, collaboration and action. The Global Innovation and Impact Awards aim to recognize and mobilize leading solutions for the Sustainable Development Goals. The Awards target young changemakers worldwide building solutions for the SDGs. The submissions must have a measurable positive impact on achieving at least one of the 17 SDGs. SDSN Youth will work collaboratively with the awardees to provide seed funding, mentorship and access to exclusive opportunities. U.S. Department of State — Inclusive Action for Climate Change
The U.S. Department of State announces an open competition for organizations to submit applications to carry out the “Inclusive Action for Climate Change” program to promote gender equity in climate policymaking and programs in South Asia. The project will assist women-led organizations to advocate for and achieve gender equity and equality in climate change adaptation efforts, including in emergency preparedness and recovery from climate-related disasters. Awards may range to a maximum of US$1.48 million. Eligible applicants are U.S. and foreign non-profit organizations, including think tanks and civil society organizations, and educational institutions. Entrepreneurship Campus — Youth Citizen Entrepreneurship Competition
The Entrepreneurship Campus invites innovative ideas for the Youth Citizen Entrepreneurship Competition to create a culture for entrepreneurship and implement one or more of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Participants are invited to submit their innovative ideas and projects with a societal impact. Entries will be posted on the competition website and are subject to online commenting and public voting. Winners receive a virtual badge and a certificate. Amani Institute — Social Innovation Management
The Amani Institute offers a post-graduate certificate in social innovation management that emphasizes leadership, communication, entrepreneurship and management, and creativity and problem solving. Fellows will participate in a 3-month Immersion phase in Nairobi (Kenya). Fellows represent a diversity of fields contributing to sustainable development, including themes related to the environment. Amani offers discounted tuition plus a limited number of tuition scholarships (but excluding airfare and housing) in cases of extreme need. The application deadline for scholarships is 06 May 2022. Swedish Research Council — Starting Grants in Development Research
The Swedish Research Council funds research projects relevant to the fight against poverty and for sustainable development in low income countries. The applicant for a research project grant must be an individual researcher. Research cooperation between scientists in Sweden and scientists in selected low and middle-income countries is encouraged. The maximum amount is SEK 1.5 million per year for a period of four years. International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development — Small Grants Program
The International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) supports regional transboundary programs to address critical challenges in climate change, food security, water and related disasters, land use, and air quality. The small grants program is to help grow the network of government agencies, universities, and institutions in the HKH region that utilize geospatial tools and information to improve decision-making. SERVIR-HKH expects to award 4-5 grants. Individual grants will not exceed US$30 thousand. Applications will be accepted from institutions based in Bangladesh, Nepal, and Pakistan. European Commission — Consolidator Grants
The European Commission provides Consolidator Grants to experienced researchers with a scientific track record. ERC Grants support projects carried out by an individual researcher who can employ researchers of any nationality as team members. Applications can be made in any field of research. Proposed research projects under this program must be conducted in a public or private research organization located in one of the EU Member States or Associated Countries. KU Leuven — PhD Scholarships for Students from the Global South
KU Leuven is the largest university in Flanders, Belgium. As one part of its cooperation to advance international development, KU Leuven offers 10 PhD scholarships to candidates from developing countries. The university offers sandwich scholarships, which means that 50% of the research takes place at KU Leuven and 50% at the home institution of the scholar, as well as full-time research at KU Leuven (4 years). The scholarships are offered to proposals that deal with a development-relevant research topic, preferably linked to the Sustainable Development Goals. Inter-American Development Bank — Urban Challenges in Latin America
The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) launches the challenge Cities for All, which seeks to identify urban challenges in Latin American and Caribbean cities. The call focuses on vulnerability and resilience to climate change and natural disasters, among other themes. Three teams will be selected to receive technical assistance of up to $35 thousand, to work on the implementation of a prototype or pilot project. German Missions — Small Scale Projects in South Asia
Germany’s Federal Foreign Office supports small scale projects in South Asia that address the needs of the underprivileged. Direct financial assistance is provided to Indian and Bhutanese NGOs and religious institutions for the implementation of small-scale projects for the benefit of disadvantaged groups of society. Projects must have a clear focus on “Helping people to help themselves” and aim to improve living conditions, for example, through water supply, energy supply, food security, reconstructions after a natural disaster etc. The average funding amount is €23 thousand per project.
