The European Commission provides Consolidator Grants to experienced researchers with a scientific track record. ERC Grants support projects carried out by an individual researcher who can employ researchers of any nationality as team members. Applications can be made in any field of research. Proposed research projects under this program must be conducted in a public or private research organization located in one of the EU Member States or Associated Countries. KU Leuven — PhD Scholarships for Students from the Global South
KU Leuven is the largest university in Flanders, Belgium. As one part of its cooperation to advance international development, KU Leuven offers 10 PhD scholarships to candidates from developing countries. The university offers sandwich scholarships, which means that 50% of the research takes place at KU Leuven and 50% at the home institution of the scholar, as well as full-time research at KU Leuven (4 years). The scholarships are offered to proposals that deal with a development-relevant research topic, preferably linked to the Sustainable Development Goals. Inter-American Development Bank — Urban Challenges in Latin America
The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) launches the challenge Cities for All, which seeks to identify urban challenges in Latin American and Caribbean cities. The call focuses on vulnerability and resilience to climate change and natural disasters, among other themes. Three teams will be selected to receive technical assistance of up to $35 thousand, to work on the implementation of a prototype or pilot project. German Missions — Small Scale Projects in South Asia
Germany’s Federal Foreign Office supports small scale projects in South Asia that address the needs of the underprivileged. Direct financial assistance is provided to Indian and Bhutanese NGOs and religious institutions for the implementation of small-scale projects for the benefit of disadvantaged groups of society. Projects must have a clear focus on “Helping people to help themselves” and aim to improve living conditions, for example, through water supply, energy supply, food security, reconstructions after a natural disaster etc. The average funding amount is €23 thousand per project. Accelerate2030 — Entrepreneurship and Sustainable Development
Accelerate2030 supports entrepreneurs from developing and emerging markets to scale their solutions for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Accelerate2030 is a Scale Readiness Program that provides support based on specific needs, such as access to experts, mentors, and partners. While Accelerate2030 supports solutions to any SDGs, the program is particularly looking for solutions related to the Circular Economy, access to Good Health and Wellbeing and Clean Water. Ocean Risk and Resilience Action Alliance — Ocean Resilience Innovation Challenge
The Ocean Risk and Resilience Action Alliance (ORRAA) seeks new finance and insurance innovations that build coastal resilience to ocean-derived risks. Organizations, local civil society, international NGOs and academia are invited to submit finance and insurance products that drive investment in coastal natural capital and increase resilience. Proposed projects must reduce ocean risk for the most vulnerable and protect biodiversity. Selected projects will receive customized support and benefit from tailored mentoring. Cisco invites submissions of innovative technology solutions from student entrepreneurs around the world that solve the world’s most pressing social and environmental problems. The Challenge is open to students and recent alumni from any college or university. A total of US$1 million in prize money will be awarded for the adoption and development of breakthrough technologies, products, and services that drive economic development or solve social and environmental problems. University of Applied Sciences Western Switzerland — Research Partnership Grants MENA
The Research Partnership Grants support research projects with collaborating institutions in MENA countries. The Leading House MENA accepts grant applications solely from applicants. The Swiss applicant needs to have a proposed or an ongoing research project with an institutional partner in the MENA region. The maximum grant amount per project is CHF15 thousand. Both the applicant and the partner institute abroad are required to make in-kind contributions to the proposed research project. PES Latam Alliance supports social entrepreneurs in Latin America to accelerate their impact in the region. The Bridge for Billions program seeks social businesses with innovative solutions working to improve the lives of the most vulnerable. Selected social enterprises will be able to access up to US$50 thousand of seed capital, support through courses and events, training with alliance partners, and a community of entrepreneurs.
