#SeeingBlue seeks ideas and solutions for responsible blue tourism. “Blue tourism” is defined as responsible touristic activities that not only limit the impact of tourism on the marine environment, but can even reverse it and encourage a healthier relationship between the tourism industry, tourists (local and foreign) and the ocean. The Young Ocean Champions Award is open to young people (13-30 years old) from Mauritius and Seychelles. The winning team will receive US$ 500 in prize money, as well as US$ 1,000 in seed funding and mentoring from experts in the ocean industry to support them in the implementation of their project. The US-Russia Youth TV Bridge is an international platform for increasing cooperation between US and Russian youth through collaborative video production. Students interested in broadcast journalism are encouraged to submit video materials on the topic “Using technology to improve society” (which may include one or more sustainable topics relevant to the Terra Viva Grants Directory). The best, most interesting, and most topical submissions will be shown in full during YTVB episodes. The Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Business at Rice University (Texas, USA) invites student teams to participate in the Rice Business Plan Competition 2018. Entrepreneurs receive the opportunity to pitch their startups to investors, receive mentoring, network with the entrepreneurial ecosystem, and enhance their startup strategy. Typically, startups have a technology component in one of the three sectors (1) Energy/Clean Technology; (2) Life Science/Biotechnology; or (3) Information Technology. The competition is open to degree-seeking students currently enrolled at a U.S. or non-U.S. university. The grand prize winner receives a $300 thousand investment. Hike & Cycle – Nature-Saving Scholarship for Students
Hike & Cycle awards Nature-Saving Scholarships to students who raise environmental awareness and support a responsible approach to outdoor activities using their writing skills. For this contest participants are asked to prepare a list of nature-saving rules on one of the following subjects: (1) Responsible Camping; (2) How Hikers Can Make Sure That They Don’t Hurt Wildlife; and (3) Recommendations for Responsible Behavior Near Bodies of Water. Participants must currently be enrolled in high school, university, or college. Applications from all countries are accepted. UN Environment and Think Beyond Plastic — Marine Plastics Innovation Challenge
UN Environment in collaboration with Think Beyond Plastic invites university students from all over the globe to take part in the 2017 Marine Plastic Innovation Challenge. The challenge seeks solution-oriented engineering, research and communication projects that can help solve the global marine litter problem. The innovation challenge is organized around four themes: (1) Design and Engineering, (2) Communication, (3) Prediction and Recovery, and (4) Economics. The winners will be invited to the Sixth International Marine Debris Conference in San Diego, USA, on 12 – 16 March 2018 and receive professional mentoring.
