Eastern Africa Farmers Federation — Support for Young Farmers in Africa

The Eastern Africa Farmers Federation in partnership with IFAD calls for innovative ideas from rural youth groups in agriculture and agribusiness related enterprises. Young farmers will receive technical support, mentorship, access to potential funders/investors and other partnership opportunities. Eligibility extends to groups or individual farmers (35 years or less) from Kenya, Uganda, Burundi and Rwanda. Applications have to be received by 06 June 2018. Find information on how to apply

Unilever — Young Entrepreneurs Awards 2018

The Unilever Young Entrepreneurs Awards invite nominations of individuals ages 18 to 35 anywhere in the world who have initiatives, products, or services that address sustainability challenges in four categories. The categories are “farm to table” (sustainable agriculture and food and drink nutrition); opportunities for women; waste management; and water management. The awards will be made to individuals who are putting their ideas into action, i.e., who are already having an impact. Unilever will recognise up to eight winners in 2018, each of whom will be awarded a cash prize in addition to one-to-one mentoring support for a year. The overall winner will receive the “HRH The Prince of Wales Young Sustainability Entrepreneur Prize” of €50 thousand. The deadline for nominations is 30 June 2018. Link

European Commission — Youth Entrepreneurs in Agriculture

The European Union seeks proposals for projects that address challenges and create opportunities for the youth in Swaziland through entrepreneurship opportunities in sustainable agriculture. Grants requested must fall between €372 thousand and €472 thousand. Eligibility extends to non-profit organizations located in the European Union or Swaziland. Western Union — Scholarship for Undergraduate Study

The Western Union Foundation Global Scholarship Program is a program designed to support young people and their efforts to pursue a post-secondary education in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, or business/entrepreneurship. Selected scholarship recipients will receive USD $2,500 each to contribute toward tuition at an accredited post-secondary institution. USAID — Young Women Transform Prize

USAID will support youth in developing countries to develop their own solutions to advance the economic empowerment of young women in their communities. Prizes of $15 – $35 thousand will be awarded to grassroots youth-led or youth-serving organizations in low- or middle-income countries to address long-standing barriers to young women’s employment. Society of Wetland Scientists — Youth Art Contest

The Society of Wetland Scientists seeks submissions for its Youth Art Contest. There are two categories: Grades 1 – 4 (artists between 6-10 years old) and Grades 5 – 8 (artists between 10-14 years old). Winners will receive a small cash prize. #SeeingBlue — Young Ocean Champions Award

#SeeingBlue seeks ideas and solutions for responsible blue tourism. “Blue tourism” is defined as responsible touristic activities that not only limit the impact of tourism on the marine environment, but can even reverse it and encourage a healthier relationship between the tourism industry, tourists (local and foreign) and the ocean. The Young Ocean Champions Award is open to young people (13-30 years old) from Mauritius and Seychelles. The winning team will receive US$ 500 in prize money, as well as US$ 1,000 in seed funding and mentoring from experts in the ocean industry to support them in the implementation of their project. Eurasia Foundation — Youth TV Bridge

The US-Russia Youth TV Bridge is an international platform for increasing cooperation between US and Russian youth through collaborative video production. Students interested in broadcast journalism are encouraged to submit video materials on the topic “Using technology to improve society” (which may include one or more sustainable topics relevant to the Terra Viva Grants Directory). The best, most interesting, and most topical submissions will be shown in full during YTVB episodes. Eligibility extends to US and Russian teams consisting of 9th- and 12th- graders that are affiliated with a school or private television studio. Deadline for submissions is 31 March 2018. Rice University — Business Plan Competition for Early-Stage Startups

The Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Business at Rice University (Texas, USA) invites student teams to participate in the Rice Business Plan Competition 2018. Entrepreneurs receive the opportunity to pitch their startups to investors, receive mentoring, network with the entrepreneurial ecosystem, and enhance their startup strategy. Typically, startups have a technology component in one of the three sectors (1) Energy/Clean Technology; (2) Life Science/Biotechnology; or (3) Information Technology. The competition is open to degree-seeking students currently enrolled at a U.S. or non-U.S. university. The grand prize winner receives a $300 thousand investment. Hike & Cycle – Nature-Saving Scholarship for Students

Hike & Cycle awards Nature-Saving Scholarships to students who raise environmental awareness and support a responsible approach to outdoor activities using their writing skills. For this contest participants are asked to prepare a list of nature-saving rules on one of the following subjects: (1) Responsible Camping; (2) How Hikers Can Make Sure That They Don’t Hurt Wildlife; and (3) Recommendations for Responsible Behavior Near Bodies of Water. Participants must currently be enrolled in high school, university, or college. Applications from all countries are accepted.
