United Nations Foundation — SDG Workshop

The Big Brainstorm seeks young leaders from around the world for a two week workshop to prototype and launch initiatives to tackle the world’s most urgent sustainable development challenges. Participants apply to one of eight Action Groups, including Climate & Sustainability, among others. Each Action Group will prototype initiatives to solve real-world problems. Each Action Group will be given 8 minutes to present to partners, donors, and other young thinkers and activists. The most successful initiatives will be spotlighted during the SDG Summit (New York, September 2023). The registration deadline is 26 January 2023. Know more

Young Water Solutions — Young Water Fellowship Program: LAC

The Young Water Fellowship Program aims to empower young leaders from the developing world to implement projects addressing water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), water pollution, and water scarcity. The program offers intensive training, seed grants up to €5 thousand for projects, and mentoring support by senior experts during one year. Applications are currently invited from individuals ages 18-30 who are residents of the low and middle-income countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. InfoNile — Editors’ Biodiversity Program

InfoNile invites applications from editors from Uganda for an editors’ biodiversity training program. In addition to training with biodiversity and journalism experts, the program will incorporate field visits to conservation projects and natural sites. The workshop will have a focus on reporting on wildlife trafficking and poaching. After the training, editors will pair up with reporters in their media houses to report an in-depth story on biodiversity and/or wildlife trafficking to be published in their media houses, supported by small story grants. Mekong Commons — Writing Workshop

Mekong Commons invites applications for our 3-day online writeshop to be held in February 2023. Selected applicants will receive a grant to participate in the online workshop to learn about writing engaging stories, and to plan, research and finish their article about current environmental and development topics in the Mekong Region. WeObserve — Citizen Science Projects Online Course

WeObserve, funded by Horizon 2020, invites applications to the online course titled Citizen Science Projects: How to make a difference. The course covers many topics related to citizen science including the type of citizen science projects available around the world and how to get involved. You’ll find out how to lead a citizen science project. The course is open to anyone, free to do, and accepts applications on a continuous basis with no deadlines. Find out more

Connect4Climate — Climate Ambassador Program

Connect4Climate invites young professionals to apply to the 2023 Max Thabiso Edkins Climate Ambassador Program (MTECAP). The MTECAP is a six-month online program that offers a mix of technical and hands-on sessions providing young ambassadors with in-depth knowledge to implement meaningful climate action both in their communities and globally. Global Water Partnership-Caribbean — Water Resource Capacity Building

The Global Water Partnership-Caribbean invites project proposals for the implementation of small-scale integrated water and wastewater management capacity building projects in the Caribbean. Funding of US$5 thousand per grant will be awarded to successful applicants, for the execution of capacity building programs with a maximum of five months in duration. Global Landscapes Forum — Social Media Ambassadors

The Global Landscapes Forum launches a call for young voices from all over the world to become GLF Social Media Ambassadors for 2023. The volunteer program offers free tickets and a behind-the-scenes look at all GLF and partner events, social media workshops and learning programs and a personalized certificate. Participants must be between 18 and 35 years old and need basic knowledge of English. The application period ends on 31 December 2023. GLF Social Media Ambassadors

Alfred Wegner Institute — Training in Observational Oceanography

The Alfred Wegner Institute hosts the Nippon Foundation-POGO Centre of Excellence. The program provides training and career development in observational oceanography, using facilities at Helgoland and Sylt in the North Sea. The next training program is open to participants from developing and emerging countries. Trainees must have at least a first degree in science. Preference will be given to applicants who currently hold a position in a research or academic institution in a developing country, and who anticipate returning to the country after completion of the training. The program offers scholarships to cover travel, accommodation, tuition, and a modest allowance. The application deadline is 31 December 2022. POGO Centre of Excellence

Flemish Inter-University Council — Short-Term Projects

The Flemish Inter-University Council (VLIR-UOS) invites applications for Short Initiative projects that aim to build and deepen academic/scientific collaborations among diverse teams of academics and researchers. Short Initiatives focus on a sustainable development challenge. The objective is to strengthen research and educational capacities of higher education and science institutions in partner countries in Latin America, Africa and Southeastern Asia. Project budgets amount to a maximum of €70 thousand for two years. The deadline to submit proposals is 16 March 2023. VLIR-UOS Short Initiative
