UK Government — Darwin Plus for British Overseas Territories

The Darwin Initiative contributes knowledge that links biodiversity conservation and poverty reduction in low and middle-income countries. Darwin Plus Fellowships aim to build capacity within the UK Overseas Territories through training opportunities. There are two different budget templates for projects requesting over and under £100 thousand. The Project Leader can be based in any country. However, all Darwin Plus projects are expected to seek in-territory partners. Projects led by in-territory partners/organizations are encouraged. Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research — AgriTech Innovation Challenge Egypt

CGIAR seeks scientists and entrepreneurs working on agri-tech solutions for a more sustainable, efficient, and climate-resilient agricultural system in Egypt. The AgriTech4Egypt Innovation Challenge is designed specifically for early-stage agri-tech ventures. Participants will receive support to build the foundations of an agri-tech venture for scalable growth in Egypt. The challenge is open to national and international innovation teams. InfoNile — Scientist-Journalist Co-Production Fellowship

InfoNile invites applications from journalists and scientists in the Nile Basin countries (Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Ethiopia, Egypt, DRC, Sudan, and South Sudan) for a fellowship program (June 2024 to March 2025) that will involve training, mentorship, and coproduction of communication outputs based on scientific research. Journalists with an interest in water and the environment; and scientists and researchers from different disciplines working on topics related to water and/or the environment, such as climate change; biodiversity; water quality; water infrastructure, and hydrology in the Nile Basin countries are invited to apply. Canada Fund for Local Initiatives — Community Projects in Jordan

The Canada Fund for Local Initiatives invites proposals that meet the needs of local communities in Jordan. The priorities under this call include one on environment and climate action focusing on adaptation and mitigation, as well as on water management. The average contribution is expected to be in the range of C$55 thousand to C$75 thousand per project. Larger projects may be considered on an exceptional basis. Eligibility extends to local community organizations, non-profit organizations, and academic institutions. The deadline for submission is 21 March 2024. CFLI Jordan

American Society of Primatologists — Conservation Grants 2024

The American Society of Primatologists (ASP) supports students and young researchers from habitat countries who are engaged in primate conservation. Grant proposals are invited for either captive or wild primate-oriented research projects. Applications for start-up funds, supplementary funding for students, and innovations in animal care and research technology are welcome. Award amounts range from US$500 to US$1500. Massachusetts Institute of Technology — Science Journalism Fellowship Africa and MENA

The Knight Science Journalism Program at MIT seeks journalists from Africa or the Middle East. Participants will receive specialized training, to help reporters and editors from the region to further develop a successful career in science journalism. The selected fellow will join a program of study at MIT and receive a US$40 thousand stipend for the semester. Journalists based in Africa and the Middle East with at least three years’ experience reporting on science, health, or environmental issues are eligible to apply. Applications close on 01 March 2024. British Council — Scholarships for Women in STEM

The British Council launches a scholarship program in partnership with UK universities to benefit women from the Americas, South Asia, South East Asia, Egypt, Turkey, and Ukraine. The scholarship provides women with a background in STEM with financial support to inspire future generations of women to pursue careers in STEM. Applications should be made directly to the participating universities. Application deadlines vary between courses, with the last deadline on 05 April 2024. Women in STEM Scholarship

Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development — Development Projects in Arab Countries

The Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development (AFESD) finances development projects in countries of the League of Arab States. Grants can be used for technical and economic feasibility studies; or seminars and conferences. Thematic areas include agriculture and dry lands, water supply, environment, and many others. Grant size varies from less than US$20 thousand to over US$10 million. Grants are made to governmental organizations, NGOs, and civil society organizations. There is no application deadline. Free Press Unlimited — Climate Change Fellowship Program

Free Press Unlimited announces two Climate Change Fellowship Programs for journalists in the Middle East and North Africa. The Fellowship Programs will enable 20 fellows to tell a better climate story and inform their audience by creating stories that go beyond highlighting the problem and come with constructive solutions. The fellowship consists of training and individual coaching. All the fellows will receive financial support of €500. Eligible individuals must be journalists or a graduate in journalism operating in Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Palestine, Egypt, Libya, Algeria, or Tunisia. Restore4Life — Wetland Restoration in Europe

Restore4Life provides scientific and technical support for the implementation of wetland restoration solutions in Europe. Each associated region can apply for up to €100 thousand in project support. Eligibility extends to local and/or regional authorities from EU Member States and associated countries to the Horizon Europe Program. Applications can be submitted from 01 February to 29 May 2024.
