Acumen Academy — Artisanal Fisheries Leadership Program
Acumen Academy and the Environmental Defense Fund launch a Latin American Artisanal Fisheries Leadership Program for Change Agents leading equitable and sustainable fisheries initiatives. The program is open to leaders with at least 5 years of experience leading artisanal fishing organizations or initiatives or within fishing communities. The program offers leadership training and a strong community to develop future projects. The program only accepts applications from change agents from the artisanal fishing industry working in any Latin American country, including Caribbean countries. Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund — Biodiversity Conservation in the Mediterranean Basin
The Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF) invites Letters of Inquiry (LOIs) for small grants (up to US$50 thousand) for projects that support the sustainable management of water catchments through integrated approaches for the conservation of threatened freshwater biodiversity in the Mediterranean Basin. Village Capital invites applications for the “Innovation for Ecosystem Restoration: LatAm 2023” accelerator. The program addresses entrepreneurs championing forest restoration, restoration of aquatic production ecosystems and rewilding throughout Latin America. Participants will receive mentorship and access to an investment analyst. Eligibility extends to (for-profit) startups building locally viable ecosystem restoration solutions. Earth Journalism Network — Oceanic Crime and Ecoviolence
The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) seeks to support investigations that result in increased reporting about deep blue sea crimes, for example, overfishing, illegal fishing, or transnational violence. EJN can award up to €4000 thousand per investigative project. Applications are open to journalists working in any medium (online, print, television, radio) and other expert media practitioners with professional reporting experience. The African Research Fellowship (ARF) program aims at empowering African Researchers (PhD or Master degree) to carry out Earth Observation R&D activities. Candidates shall propose a 1-year research and development proposal contributing to water resources management or food security issues in Africa. Proposals focusing on smallholder needs (e.g. farming, agricultural water use, irrigation systems, etc.) or related to coastal processes (e.g. ecosystems, coastal waters, coastal urbanization, etc.) and fisheries. The Land Accelerator is a training and mentorship program targeted specifically toward businesses that restore degraded forests, farmland, and pasture. The Land Accelerator Brazil specifically targets entrepreneurs whose businesses restore Brazil’s Atlantic Forest. Participants profit from mentorship and networking opportunities, technical training, and workshops. Five companies will receive financial support of up to R$50 thousand. The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) seeks scalable innovative solutions that support farmers and other agriculture stakeholders to build capabilities to mitigate effects of climate change on low- and middle-income countries. Yale School of the Environment — Online Certificate Program: Tropical Forest Landscapes
The course “Tropical Forest Landscapes: Conservation, Restoration and Sustainable Use” is an online certificate program for environmental professionals from around the world. The online program includes four thematic eight-week courses, a yearlong capstone project course and an optional field course in Latin America or Asia. The course covers themes in tropical forest landscape conservation and restoration, climate change mitigation, and food security. Partial scholarships are available on a competitive basis.
