ASEAN Foundation — FutureReady ASEAN Competition

Future Ready ASEAN is an online platform with learning tracks to foster digital skills, in particular computer science. The FutureReady ASEAN Competition invites ASEAN youth to develop a blog site on a pressing challenge in the ASEAN region across one of the four following sub-themes: Agriculture, Biodiversity, Climate Change, Water. The competition is open to all ASEAN youth aged 15 to 35. The finalists will be invited to present their blog at a final event in Bangkok, Thailand (28-29 November 2019). European Commission — Carbon Farming in Timor-Leste

The European Commission seeks to reduce carbon emissions resulting from deforestation and poor agricultural practices. The objective of this call is to improve the climate resilience of subsistence farmers in Timor-Leste through the application of rural climate smart practices and reforestation in targeted rural areas. The grants requested under this call can be up to €2.7 million. Eligibility extends to non-profit organizations in a Member State of the European Union or Timor-Leste. International Trade Centre — Support for Women Entrepreneurs and Women-owned Businesses

The International Trade Centre (ITC) invites applications from women entrepreneurs and women-owned businesses for the SheTrades Invest program. Selected companies will gain access to learning opportunities, technical assistance, and a network of investors. The program is open to businesses from across Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and Latin America active in the following sectors: agriculture; energy; environment; tourism; water; and many others. ASEAN Foundation — Leadership Training for Social Entrepreneurs

The eMpowering Youths Across ASEAN is a partnership program between Maybank Foundation and ASEAN Foundation that consists of mentoring, regional leadership training, and overseas local community projects. The program aims to improve social and economic well-being of ASEAN communities through social enterprises and will distribute US$20 thousand to 10 selected projects. This program is eligible for citizens of ASEAN Member States (19 – 35 years old). Interested participants can apply online by 30 November 2019. Link

Climate Tracker — Assignment for Photographers

Climate Tracker seeks 20 photographers from selected countries in Africa, South Asia, Asia-Pacific, and the Caribbean to cover topics on global climate solutions ranging from renewable energy, climate displacement, coastal resilience, mangroves restoration, and more. Photographers will be compensated for their work with a stipend of €350. Local travel costs will be covered. Applications are invited from photographers with professional experience and knowledge of environmental and climate change issues. Photographers aged 18-30 are encouraged to apply. Forest Foundation Philippines — Forest Conservation in the Philippines

The Forest Foundation Philippines supports activities that foster the protection and sustainable management of forests in the Philippines. Proposed projects should contribute to the protection and sustainable management of forests and biodiversity. Grants may be used for scientific research, piloting forest management strategies in small islands ecosystems (includes Indigenous and Community Conserved Areas and Locally Conserved Areas), mangrove rehabilitation, or plant nurseries. Proponents may apply for small (Php 500 thousand), medium (Php 4 million) or large grants (Php 24 million). Individuals, groups and organizations are eligible to apply. British Council — Newton PhD Scholarships Philippines

The aim of the Newton PhD Program offers full-time PhD scholarships for Filipino researchers at a UK higher education institution. The project must fall within the following priority areas (relevant to the Terra Viva Grants Directory): Improving environmental resilience; Improving energy security; Agritech; among other thematic areas. For an applicant to be considered for the DOST-Newton PhD Scholarship, the applicant must be a Filipino Citizen and have already been accepted to a PhD program in the UK. The scholarship will cover travel costs, monthly accommodation and living allowance, tuition fees, and a grant for consumables (up to a maximum of £3 thousand per year). Thought for Food — AgriFood Tech Pitching Competition Oceania

Thought for Food and the Ag Institute Australia seek agri-food tech startups based in Oceania to join the first AgriFood Tech Pitching Competition. 10 Finalists will be invited to pitch their ideas at Cicada Innovations (Sydney, September 2019) and gain international exposure as well as the chance to win prize money. Southeast Asian Regional Centre for Tropical Biology — Research Proposals 2020

The Southeast Asian Regional Centre for Tropical Biology (SEAMEO BIOTROP) welcomes research proposals in the themes “Food Sovereignty, Energy Resilience, Ecosystem Restoration, Climate Change and Disaster Mitigation, and Sustainable Use and Protection of Local Biodiversity in Southeast Asia”. Research proposals should have a budget under Rp100 million and must be implemented within a 9-month period. The call for proposals is open to Indonesian nationals. European Commission — SEA-Europe Joint Funding Scheme for Research and Innovation

The objective of the Joint Funding Scheme (JFS) is to bring together Southeast Asian and European researchers so that they can collaborate on topics of mutual interest, one of which is Integrated Water Resource Management. Joint projects must comprise of at least 3 partners from 3 different countries. Countries contributing to this call are: Brunei Darussalam, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Czech Republic, Germany, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Latvia, Myanmar, The Philippines, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, and Vietnam. Funding will be provided for the duration of a maximum of three years (36 months). Proposals may be submitted by public research and technology development entities, academic institutions, non-university research establishments, and companies.The deadline is 18 October 2019.
