The National Geographic Society (NatGeo) supports storytelling projects that highlight attempts to mitigate or reverse human impacts on tropical rainforests. Priority for this RFP will be given to projects led by journalists and storytellers from countries within the Amazon River basin, Congo River basin, and rainforests in Southeast Asia. U.S. Department of State — Air Quality Management in Southeast Asia
The Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs, U.S. State Department, announces the “Building Air Quality Management Capacity in Southeast Asia” program. The project targets government entities with the intend to strengthen regulatory and monitoring capacity of government actors and expand awareness of air quality issues in Southeast Asian countries. The program intends to provide US$296,296 in funding to be used for the production of educational materials, expert workshops, and the development of a monitoring and evaluation plan to be used by key agencies. Countries eligible for funding under this award include: Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam. Nagao Natural Environment Foundation — Scientific Publication Program
The NEF Publication Program supports scientific publications to expand knowledge of nature conservation in developing countries in the Asia-Pacific region. The program supports: printing cost including design and layout; and distribution cost inside the applicant’s country. The maximum grant size is ¥1 million per project for a maximum duration of one year. Applicants must be nationals of developing country in the Asia-Pacific region and be a full-time researcher/scientist working at a research institution. U.S. Mission to Indonesia — Combating Environmental Crime
The U.S. Mission to Indonesia provides financial assistance to build the capacity of law enforcement, government institutions, and local civil society organizations to prevent and report on environmental crimes in Indonesia. Capacity-building activities could include but are not limited to financial analysis ; conducting workshops, hosting conferences, or facilitating study tours. Individual awards are not to exceed US$225 thousand. Eligibility extends to U.S. based and overseas-based non-profit organizations (NGOs) or educational institutions. The Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) offers scholarships for PhD studies in agriculture, natural resources, and related fields. Research funds do not to exceed US$4,500. SEARCA offers an optional 2-month internship. SEARCA prioritizes Southeast Asian nationals who are enrolled in PhD programs in a member university, however, the program is also open to applications who are regular staff members of government agencies or non-profit development-oriented institutions. The Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) is a professional development exchange for community leaders from ASEAN countries in the fields of civic engagement, NGO management, economic empowerment, governance, legislative process, and environmental and natural resources management. The Program will bring at least 200 emerging leaders, ages 25-35, from Southeast Asia to the United States to participate in leadership and professional development activities.
