Save Our Seas Foundation — Ocean Storytelling Writing Grant

The Save Our Seas Foundation (SOS) Ocean Storytelling Writing Grant supports conservation storytellers. SOS is looking for writers who can tell conservation stories about the oceans, from the animals themselves, to fisheries, to the communities whose lives are intertwined with marine life. Story topics can range from the animals themselves, to fisheries to the communities whose lives are intertwined with marine life. Successful grantees will receive a paid assignment to cover a conservation story. SOS seeks to support early-career and emerging storytellers and aims to encourage new voices with new perspectives and writing approaches. The deadline to apply is 30 November 2022. Rockefeller Foundation & Acumen — Food Systems Fellowship

Acumen, with funding from the Rockefeller Foundation, invites students from all around the world to submit innovative solutions to tackle the greatest food systems challenges. The Rockefeller Foundation-Acumen Food Systems Fellowship is an intensive, one-year leadership development program for food systems leaders who are creating more inclusive, nourishing and regenerative food systems. Eligibility extends to individuals who demonstrate experience in building inclusive food systems. Olympus — Global Life Science Light Microscopy Award

The Olympus Microscopy Award recognizes the best in life science imaging worldwide. Olympus invites photographers and researchers worldwide to submit up to three microscopy photographs. Participants can win professional microscopy and photography equipment. One global winner and one regional winner from three world regions (Asia, Europe, Americas) will be selected. Women4Biodiversity — Biodiversity Photo Contest

The She Shapes Biodiversity photo contest aims to celebrate women’s contributions to the environment. Participants can submit a maximum of 3 entries under the “she shapes biodiversity”, showing women’s role in protecting or restoring biodiversity. The top 5 photographers will receive €200 each. Morris Animal Foundation — Wildlife Health and Welfare 2023

The Morris Animal Foundation supports research on animal health and welfare, including wildlife/exotics. The Foundation invites proposals in several categories: Established Investigator (average US$50 thousand per year for 3 years); First Award (US$54 thousand per year for 2 years); Fellowship Training (average US$50 thousand per year for 2 years); Pilot Study (max US$10 thousand); and Veterinary Students (stipends of up to US$5 thousand). SVG Ventures – Climate-Smart Agriculture Challenge

The Climate-Smart Agriculture Challenge seeks to identify and support innovators who are driving the global transformation to climate-smart agriculture practices. Winners will receive up to US$100 thousand in funding to develop a proof of concept and will be considered for investment from Shell Ventures. Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences — Amsterdam Talent Scholarship

The Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS) aims to attract excellent students from around the world, therefore, it awards €4 thousand at the end of every academic year to successful non-EEA students who have been enrolled in one of the programs of the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences. Eligible courses are Agriculture, Forestry and Fishery, Environmental Sciences, Natural sciences and others. Massachusetts Institute of Technology — Solved Youth Innovation Challenge

The MIT Solve program seeks passionate young innovators aged 24 and under who implement solutions that have positive impacts in their communities and the world. The Solv[ED] Youth Innovation Challenge is an opportunity to submit tech-based solutions that address one of four thematic areas: Learning, Health, Sustainability and Economic Prosperity, for example, innovations that can reduce the effects of climate change. 10 winners will receive prize funding and mentorship from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Garden Club of America — Awards in Tropical Botany and Horticulture

The Garden Club of America (GCA) offers several grants, prizes, and fellowships for students enrolled at universities in the USA, including some awards that have a tropical focus. The GCA Awards in Tropical Botany are open to PhD candidates (application deadline is 15 January). The Anne Chatham Fellowship in Medicinal Botany is open to PhD students and recent PhD graduates (deadline is 31 January). The Lou McCandless Marks Scholarship in Tropical Horticulture is restricted to U.S. citizens who are graduate students or advanced undergraduate students (deadline is 01 February). European Commission — Floating Wind Energy Deployment

The European Commission (EC) offers grants for innovation on floating wind energy deployment optimized for deep waters and different sea basins (Mediterranean Sea, Black Sea, Baltic Sea, North-east Atlantic Ocean). The proposal is expected to deploy in one of the sea basins in Europe. Applicants must be established in a Member State of the European Union, countries associated with Horizon Europe or low- and middle-income countries. The application deadline is 23 February 2023. Link
