The University of Rhode Island’s Metcalf Institute for Marine & Environmental Reporting accepts applications for its annual Science Immersion Workshop for Journalists. The workshop provides journalists with access to leading scientists and policymakers and a chance to gain a deeper understanding of science-based stories on natural, social, and engineering research guiding an equitable transition to clean energy. SEARCA accepts nominations for regional professorial chair grants. The grant is open to Southeast Asian experts in the academic field of Agricultural Technology/Innovation or with outstanding contributions on policies related to Agripreneurship. These include, but are not limited to, agriculture, social sciences, marine and fishery sciences, environmental sciences, economics, and rural development-oriented fields. The awardee will receive a grant of US$5 thousand. The East Asian Seas Congress Youth Forum (April 2024) aims to bring together young leaders across the East Asian Seas region to have a deeper understanding of the marine environment, and impacts of climate change. Citizens of the following countries are eligible to apply: Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Japan, Lao PDR, Philippines, Republic of Korea, Singapore, Timor-Leste, Vietnam. Applicants must be 21 to 35 years old and have, at least, one year exposure or experience in marine science, marine conservation, or any related fields. The International SeaKeepers Society supports the Discovery Yachts Program to promote marine research, education, and conservation. The program enables marine scientists to conduct oceanographic research by placing them on member vessels. SeaKeepers maintains a database of yacht owners willing to donate time, fuel, provisions, and expertise aboard their vessels. Research missions aboard participating yachts may take place in any coastal or offshore waters where legally permitted. Proposals are accepted on a rolling (continuous) basis. The Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF) makes small and large grants in support of biodiversity conservation in the Caribbean “Caribbean Islands Biodiversity Hotspot.” Grants are in support of community-based sustainable small-scale fisheries, protection and conservation of endangered marine species, marine protected areas management, and activities that promote improved marine and coastal ecosystems. Small grants are between US$5 thousand and US$50 thousand; large grants are greater than US$50 thousand. The Ocean Foundation and the Boyd Lyon Sea Turtle Fund seek applicants for the Boyd N. Lyon Scholarship. Students with field research projects on sea turtle behavior and habitat use in the marine environment, as well as projects that promote sea turtle conservation in coastal ecosystems can apply. One award of US$2,500 will be made to a Masters or PhD student. The applicants must be enrolled in an accredited college or university during 2023/2024. The application deadline is 15 January 2024. The Mesoamerican Reef Fund (MAR Fund) announces its annual request for proposals with two available financial windows: Traditional Small Grants and Reef Rescue Initiative. Traditional Small Grants support Coastal and Marine resources management and protection in the Mesoamerican Reef (MAR). Reef Rescue Initiative supports and strengthens science-based restoration, repopulation, and rehabilitation of coral reefs in the MAR region. The proposals to be presented may have a duration of up to two years. Funding ranges from US$30 thousand to US$50 thousand. At least 25% of the total budget must come from other sources, as a match to the requested funds. All coral reefs within the MAR region are eligible.
