Bois Énergie Sahel aims to increase the rate of equipment and use of Clean and Efficient Cooking in major urban centers in Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso. The program supports companies in distribution, marketing and the financing of clan cooking equipment and biofuels. The call is open to private for-profit companies and non-profit organizations. Social Shifters announces the Global Innovation Challenge to help young leaders and founders to solve the social or environmental issues that matter to them. The challenge seeks creative ideas, projects, and business solutions to the problems that matter to local communities and welcomes ideas from anywhere in the world. Participants compete for awards of up to US$10 thousand to deliver activities that improve lives, help communities, and protect the planet. The U.S. Department of State announces an open competition for organizations to submit a statement of interest to carry out a program to expand the Department’s response to the climate crisis. The overall goal is to create local communities of entrepreneurs that are more market-savvy and better able to generate climate solutions. Awards range from US$50 thousand to US$260 thousand. Eligibility extends to U.S. and foreign non-profit organizations; institutions of higher education; and businesses. The closing date for applications is 14 July 2023. Link

The Lead 2030 Challenge for SDG 7 aims to identify and support youth-led enterprises that are tackling the energy divide in the worst affected countries and regions. The challenge welcomes innovations for addressing energy needs, for example, providing affordable energy to communities with limited access or clean alternative cooking fuels. The winner will receive a US$50 thousand project grant and 12 months of mentorship from a team of CEZ Group professionals. The initiative must be youth-led (founded by a person aged 18 – 30). Climate Tracker seeks journalists from Africa to join their COP28 team. Selected journalists will join Climate Tracker to cover the global climate summit in-person and virtually. The Global Youth Climate Action Fund (GYCAF) makes microgrants to finance youth-led climate action in communities vulnerable to the effects of climate change. Focus areas include smart agriculture to ensure food sustainability, clean energy for local communities, protecting marine life and mitigating climate catastrophes, and biodiversity conservation. Grants range from US$500 to US$1000. The fund targets youth-led organizations and networks seeking funding for their projects and businesses. The application deadline is 16 June 2023. The Island Innovation Caribbean Climate Justice Leaders Academy is open for applications. The interactive course will run from mid-July 2023 to January 2024. The program aims to build the capacity of young professionals, eligible students, and young community leaders working in the Caribbean region. Participants will receive expert training and capacity building through online training sessions from climate experts. Five participants will be able to travel to the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) in Dubai. The application deadline is 30 June 2023. Details here

The Climate Resiliency Challenge seeks organizations and teams across the globe to develop solutions that will empower frontline communities to be ready and resilient against disasters caused by climate change – in particular, wildfires, floods, and extreme weather. Winners will receive prizes ranging from US$50 thousand to US$200 thousand. The challenge is open to individuals, teams of individuals, and legal entities. Deadline for submissions is 10 July 2023. The Global Centre on Biodiversity for Climate (GCBC) funds research into natural solutions to climate change and poverty. The GCBC makes grants that fund research into how the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity can help address climate change and improve livelihoods of some of the world’s most vulnerable populations.
