Schneider Electric — Go Green Student Competition: Middle East & Africa

Schneider Electric seeks applications for the Go Green global student competition in the Middle East & Africa. Students are invited to submit solutions to real-life case challenges within energy management or ideas for sustainable energy access. Top teams will be invited to attend the Virtual Global Finals to pitch their ideas. In addition, one all-female team from the semi-finals will win the Women in Business Award. United Nations World Food Programme — Food Systems Challenge: Rwanda

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) seeks solutions in Rwanda that address food insecurity through strengthening food systems. The IGNITE Food Systems Challenge supports the scaling of innovative start-ups, small businesses, and cooperatives with commercially viable solutions to address gaps in the food system. Mastercard Foundation — Scholarships for Africans at University of Cape Town

The Mastercard Foundation funds economically disadvantaged students from Sub-Saharan Africa for study at University of Cape Town (UCT). The fields of study at UCT include different areas of sciences; and many others. The scholarship includes comprehensive financial assistance with visa applications, travel, tuition, living expenses, medical aid and accommodation. InfoNile — Collaboration between Journalists and Scientists

InfoNile aims to promote science-based environmental journalism by facilitating collaboration between journalists and scientists. InfoNile invites applications from journalists and scientists in the Nile Basin countries (Uganda, Kenya, Burundi, Tanzania, Egypt, Sudan, South Sudan, DRC, Ethiopia and Rwanda) for a fellowship program running from May to December 2023. The program will offer training, mentorship, and coproduction of communication outputs based on scientific research. The application deadline is 06 April 2023. Click here

United Nations — Portuguese-speaking Indigenous Fellowship Program

The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) Indigenous Fellowship Training Programme is open for applications. The call is open only to the indigenous peoples of Brazil, with the aim of later opening the same opportunity to other Portuguese-speaking countries. The aim of the program is to give indigenous persons the opportunity to gain knowledge on the UN system and mechanisms dealing with human rights issues in general and indigenous issues in particular. (Note: This may include land rights and biodiversity conservation issues). Participants will learn how to more effectively advocate for the rights of their communities and raise their concerns at the international level. Earth Journalism Network — Mekong Video Storytelling Fellowship

The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) aims to train content producers from the Lower Mekong countries to tell impactful visual stories about natural resources governance. EJN will select 25 fellows from the Lower Mekong countries for online and in-person training. Following the training, participants will be invited to pitch video story ideas that examine the challenges in Mekong natural resource management and their impacts on local communities and natural habitats. EJN will award the best story ideas with grants of US$ 2,500 each to produce a video. The fellowship is open to applicants from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam. Irish Government — Funding for Micro-Projects in the Pacific

The Embassy of Ireland, Canberra (ICMPS) offers grants of up to US$8 thousand to organizations in the Pacific who work on issues related to women’s rights, climate change, biodiversity, conflict resolution and human rights. Organizations must be based in the Pacific and be an indigenous, locally managed, non-profit organization. Applications are due by 11 April 2023. A second round specifically for organizations based in Fiji, Nauru, Solomon Islands or Papua New Guinea will be open from 18 April to 30 June 2023. Know more

Canada Fund for Local Initiatives — Community Projects in Guatemala and Belize

The Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) invites proposals that meet the needs of local communities in Guatemala and Belize. CFLI provides funding to projects that implement environment and climate action projects focusing on adaptation and mitigation, water management, and other thematic priorities. The average contribution is C$15 thousand to C$35 thousand per project. Eligibility extends to not-for-profit local, national or community-based organizations. Friends of Ocean Action — Ocean Data Challenge

The Ocean Data Challenge calls for startups and social enterprises that use ocean data to boost ocean conservation and promote the sustainable blue economy. Solutions need to contribute to the sustainability and resilience of the Western Indian Ocean, aligning with the Great Blue Wall Initiative and delivering benefits to people and nature. Priority is given to companies or social enterprises with a sustainable funding model. Non-profit organizations with a revenue generating project may also be considered.
