DocA provides financial support for the development, production, post-production, and impact production of documentary films to filmmakers and producers from the African continent. DocA makes grants valued at US$5,000. To be considered, applicants must be African producers of African nationality and commit to completing the short film (less than 20 minutes) within a year of receiving the grant. The deadline for applications is 02 October 2024. DocA

L’Oréal supports organizations in their efforts to help women to get out of poverty. The Fund supports women’s and girls’ empowerment, particularly through projects favoring social or professional integration and education. Specific attention is paid to refugee women and women with disabilities. Eligibility extends to grassroots non-profit organizations. The Commonwealth Foundation makes grants to civil society organizations in Commonwealth countries to support participatory governance. (Note: This could include participatory governance related to the management of forests, wildlife, water supplies, and other subjects in natural resources and the environment.) The total grant amount requested must be between £15 thousand and £30 thousand per year for a maximum of two years. A list of eligible countries is included in the call. The Asia Foundation seeks applications to the “LeadNext: Ambassadors for a Global Future” program. LeadNext Fellows focus on creative approaches to addressing issues such as climate change, inequality, injustice, poverty, or other pressing issues. Fellows meet 1-3 times a week over several weeks to build competencies in social change leadership. All program expenses including travel, housing, and food are provided at no cost to fellows. To be eligible for the program candidates must be aged between 18-25 during the entire program year. The deadline for applications is 27 October 2024. LeadNext

The Knowles Educational and Charitable Trust for International Leadership (Kectil) Program is a one-year web-based mentoring program in youth leadership. The program consists of multiple-week modules with assignments to address issues facing youth globally. Youth (aged 17-26) from developing countries are eligible to apply. The WAAW Foundation supports African women who seek a STEM-focused college education. The Foundation offers a need-based scholarship of US$500 to undergraduate female African students. Applicants have to be under 32 years old and be enrolled in an undergraduate B.S. degree program at a University or college in Africa. Eligible courses include Agriculture, Biology, Botany, Environmental Science, Natural Science, Zoology and many other fields. Application closes on 30 November 2024. Link to the WAAW Foundation

The Mastercard Foundation funds economically disadvantaged students from Sub-Saharan Africa to study at the University of Cambridge. The fields of study include different areas of sciences and STEM fields; and many others. The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program covers the cost of travel and visas, accommodation, meals, allowance for a laptop, health cover, and a living stipend – as well as tuition costs. These scholarships cover the full period of study and are renewable annually. The scholarship application has to be submitted no later than 05 December 2024. Know more

USAID sponsors Development Innovation Ventures (DIV) to identify, develop, test, and scale innovative approaches in development. DIV’s portfolio includes projects across the range of USAID’s program areas – including in agriculture, energy, climate change, water, waste management, and others related to natural resources and the environment. Applicants may apply for any of the three following stages: Proof of Concept (Up to US$200 thousand for up to 3 years), Testing and Positioning for Scale (US$200 thousand to $1.5 million for up to 3 years), and Scaling (US$1.5 million to US$15 million for up to 5 years). Proposals are accepted year-round, from any type of organization (including private businesses, faith-based organizations, institutions of higher education, foundations, civic groups, regional organizations, and international organizations), in any country. Regional Incubator for Social Entrepreneurs (RISE) is a project for the youth, willing to learn and change things for the betterment of the Western Balkans. RISE invites ideas or innovative solutions for a new and better way to approach education, women empowerment, culture, rural development, health or employment in regional communities. The program will support regional changemakers through tailor-made programs, mentorship, and training. Young people from 18 to 35 years old from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia are eligible. Please note that Local Incubators may have different deadlines. The African Network for Economics of Learning, Innovation and Competence Building Systems (AfricaLics) seeks PhD students from universities in Africa to participate in the AfricaLics PhD Visiting Fellowship Program focused on Innovation and Development. The visiting fellowship program intends to increase international mobility and provide PhD students with global knowledge in the field of innovation and development (which includes a four-month study stay in South Africa).
