Commonwealth Scholarship Commission — Professional Fellowships 2024/25

Commonwealth Professional Fellowships support mid-career professionals from developing Commonwealth countries to make professional visits (typically of three months) with UK host organizations. Applications are invited in the thematic area of clean energy, air, and oceans. Fellows must be Commonwealth citizens, refugees, or British-protected persons — and they must be permanent residents in a developing Commonwealth country. World Bank Group — Africa Fellowship Program 2025

The Africa Region of the World Bank Group seeks applications for the 2025 WBG-Africa Fellowship Program for Ph.D. Students and recent Ph.D. graduates who are Sub-Saharan nationals. Fellows will spend at least six months at the World Bank offices in Washington, D.C., or in a Sub-Saharan country, getting hands-on experience in development work. While benefiting from research and innovation in multiple sectors, fellows will also work on economic policy, technical assistance, and lending to eliminate poverty and increase shared prosperity. Fellows will receive consultant fees, economy-class air travel, and worker’s compensation insurance. The program invites applications from recent Ph.D. graduates, or current doctoral students, in disciplinary fields that include agriculture, energy, and others. Wilson Center — International Fellowship Program

The Woodrow Wilson Center offers a 9-month residential fellowship to scholars, practitioners, journalists, and public intellectuals. Fellows conduct research in their areas of interest while interacting with policymakers in Washington and Wilson Center staff and other scholars in residence. The Center accepts proposals that address key challenges confronting the United States and the world. The Center offers a stipend of US$90 thousand. Misereor — Grassroots Development

Misereor is the international development agency of the Catholic Church in Germany. Its mission is to fight hunger, disease, poverty, and other forms of human suffering in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Issues and themes include climate change and justice; food security and agriculture; access to land; energy for the poor; and extractive industries. Watson Institute — Western Union Foundation Fellowship

The Western Union Foundation Fellowship is for young entrepreneurs and community leaders who are from highly marginalized, refugee, and forcibly displaced communities around the globe. The 16-week-long program is designed to equip entrepreneurs with the skills and experience to transform their communities. US$25 thousand in seed funding will be distributed among the Fellows. The Watson Institute accepts applicants from the following countries: Mexico, Kenya, Austria, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ethiopia, France, Germany, India, Italy, Jordan, Lebanon, United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Uganda, United Kingdom, United States, and Afghanistan. Aspire Coronation Trust Foundation — Development Grants for Africa

The Aspire Coronation Trust (ACT) Foundation seeks applications for the Changemakers Innovation Challenge. The challenge is open to non-profits and social enterprises across Africa who are using technological/digital tools to create innovative social solutions. Focus areas include health, environment, leadership, and entrepreneurship. Proposed projects must have a maximum life cycle of 12 months and benefit African communities. The challenge is open to non-profits and social enterprises across Africa. The application deadline is 15 July 2024. Changemakers

Connecting Dreams Foundation — Global Changemaker Fellowship

The Connecting Dreams Foundation accepts proposals for the Global Changemaker Fellowship. The Fellowship is a 6-month virtual program intended to develop Social Change Leaders who are focused on handling challenges in their local communities. Fellows participate in workshops and receive training and mentorship while implementing their local initiative. The program is intended for young leaders (aged 20-35) with an entrepreneurial mindset and approach towards solving community-centric challenges. Students in school, college, university, and working professionals working on an initiative to create a social change along the lines of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are invited to apply. Irish Aid — Ireland Fellows Programme 2025/26

Irish Aid offers scholarships to qualified candidates from Sub-Saharan Africa, Southeast Asia, and Latin America to undertake Master’s degrees at universities and colleges in Ireland. Awards are made in the fields of development studies, rural development, biodiversity conservation, and many other subject areas relevant to the Terra Viva Grants Directory. The scholarship covers course fees, flights, accommodation, monthly allowances, insurance, and other incidental expenses. The deadline for applications is 30 July 2024. Application Information

Nippon Foundation — Ocean Fellowship

The United Nations–Nippon Foundation Fellowship provides government officials and other mid-level professionals from developing states with advanced training on ocean affairs and the law of the sea. The 9-month fellowship program is composed of two consecutive phases which provide fellows with advanced and customized research and training opportunities. Fellows will receive a stipend each month during their fellowship. The stipend is intended to cover the cost of lodging, boarding, and other essentials such as local transport. In addition to the stipend, fellows will be provided with a book allowance of US$100 per month. Candidates must be between the ages of 25 and 40. Friedrich Ebert Foundation — Scholarships for International PhD Students

The Friedrich Ebert Foundation supports international students from Africa, Asia, Latin America, and Eastern Europe who study at universities in Germany. (Note: The FES only awards scholarships to applicants from abroad who have already enrolled in a German university or have a supervisor for their doctoral studies.) International students from all subjects (except the medical disciplines) are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Foreign scholarship holders receive up to €1 thousand per month over a period of two to three years, plus family allowance (if applicable). Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
