German Federal Environmental Foundation — PhD Fellowships

The German Federal Environmental Foundation (DBU) offers 60 research fellowships per year to young scientists in Germany and internationally across all disciplines of environmental protection. The funding period is 36 months with a monthly stipend of €1,500. DBU welcomes subjects of international importance, although the work has to be done mainly in Germany, and with a clear reference to the German environmental situation. Embassy of Japan in Mozambique — Water and Sanitation

The Embassy of Japan in Mozambique provides financial assistance to non-profit organizations in support of Basic Human Needs, including Water and Sanitation. The maximum grant amount per project is 10 million yen (approx. US$66 thousand). Potential recipients are community-based nonprofit organizations that implement development projects at grass-roots level (NGOs, educational institutions, local governments, etc.). United States Agency for International Development — Urban Sanitation Madagascar

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) announces the Madagascar Urban Sanitation Project. USAID/Madagascar aims to engage eligible partners to expand water and sanitation in urban areas. USAID anticipates supporting one award of up to US$10 million over five years. Eligibility is unrestricted, however, certain conditions have to be met. Please study the official announcement carefully. The closing date for applications is 03 January 2023. Link

Women’s World Summit Foundation — Prize for Women’s Creativity in Rural Life 2023

The Women’s World Summit Foundation (WWSF) invites nominations for its annual Prize for Women’s Creativity in Rural Life. The prize honors women’s groups for exceptional creativity, courage, and commitment to improve the quality of life in rural communities. Each year, between 5-10 winners receive a cash prize of US$1,000. Nominations include biographical data about the nominee; at least two endorsement letters; and labeled photos. Global Biodiversity Information Facility — Data Papers on Freshwater Species

GBIF and the open-access Journal of Limnology announce a call for researchers to submit data papers about species that inhabit the world’s inland waters. To assist efforts to fill gaps in primary biodiversity data on freshwater species, GBIF will sponsor the article processing charges (normally €624) for the first sixteen manuscripts accepted by the Journal. Australian Government — Direct Aid Program Papua New Guinea

The Australian Government seeks applications for its Direct Aid Program (DAP) in Papua New Guinea. The small grants program supports small-scale sustainable development projects and activities in the fields of water and sanitation, environmental protection, food security, scientific research, and others. Eligibility extends to community groups, NGOs and academic institutions engaged in development activities on a not-for-profit basis. Expressions of interest have to be submitted by 28 October 2022. International Water Resources Association — World Water Envoys

The International Water Resources Association (IWRA) invites applications for the World Water Envoys Program. Water Envoys will have the opportunity to participate in the 18th edition of the IWRA World Water Congress (China, September 2023) to discuss water issues and potential solutions. Envoys will be funded to come to Beijing, including economy round-trip, accommodation, full registration to the Congress, and one-year free membership to IWRA. Australian Government — Direct Aid Program India

The Australian Government seeks applications for its Direct Aid Program (DAP). The small grants program supports small-scale sustainable development projects and activities in the fields of agriculture; environmental conservation; and others. Grants are typically provided up to US$14,000 each for projects of max. 12 months. Eligibility extends to community groups, NGOs and academic institutions engaged in development activities on a not-for-profit basis. Application closing date is 10 November 2022. King Baudouin Foundation — Enterprises for SDGs

The Business Partnership Facility (BPF) awards subsidies to support and develop private sector involvement in Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in developing countries. Projects submitted under this call must contribute to achieving at least one clearly identified SDG. The BPF provides non-refundable grants between €50 thousand and €200 thousand that represent a maximum 50% of the total investment. Eligible countries include several from Asia, Latin America, the Middle East and North Africa, and Sub-Saharan Africa (full list of eligible countries is provided in the call). Partnerships must comprise actors from the private sector, civil society, academia and/or the public sector, with at least one organization from the for-profit private sector. Yale University — Yale Young African Scholars 2023

Yale Young African Scholars (YYAS) offers an academic summer program for secondary school students from across Africa. The program offers online and in-person programs in four interdisciplinary sessions on Innovations in Science & Technology and Solving Global Challenges. Admitted participants will have access to pre-recorded videos before the start of the program and attend live sessions. There is no tuition cost to participate in the program.
