Projects include initiatives in a wide range of areas including arts, technology, community development, and more. Anyone is eligible for a grant, including individuals, groups, and organizations. WeObserve — Citizen Science Projects Online Course
WeObserve, funded by Horizon 2020, invites applications to the online course titled Citizen Science Projects: How to make a difference. The course covers many topics related to citizen science including the type of citizen science projects available around the world and how to get involved. You’ll find out how to lead a citizen science project. The course is open to anyone, free to do, and accepts applications on a continuous basis with no deadlines. Find out more
Flemish Inter-University Council — Short-Term Projects
The Flemish Inter-University Council (VLIR-UOS) invites applications for Short Initiative projects that aim to build and deepen academic/scientific collaborations among diverse teams of academics and researchers. Short Initiatives focus on a sustainable development challenge. The objective is to strengthen research and educational capacities of higher education and science institutions in partner countries in Latin America, Africa and Southeastern Asia. Bristol Myers Squibb — Lead2030 Challenge for SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production)
The Young One World Lead2030 Challenge for SDG 12 seeks to reduce waste and the release of toxins into the environment which will ultimately improve health outcomes. Projects should focus on the link between waste and health, recycling or reuse programs for individuals or companies, or preventing food waste and food loss. The challenge welcomes solutions from young innovators (18-30 years old). The winner will receive a US$50 thousand project startup grant and 12-months of mentorship from a team of Bristol Myers Squibb professionals and partners. The application deadline is 31 January 2023. Safer End of Engineered Life — Reducing the Burning of Waste
The Safer End of Engineered Life funds projects that tackle the open burning of waste that lead to a risk to human health and safety. Activities must lead to demonstrable impacts for the beneficiaries, which reduces the risks posed to vulnerable groups as a result of the open burning of municipal solid waste. There are two types of grants available: impact grants (up to £60 thousand) and baseline study and awareness-raising grants (up to £20 thousand). UK Government — Manufacturing Pollution in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia
The Sustainable Manufacturing and Environmental Pollution (SMEP) Program calls for concepts for research and development projects that address manufacturing pollution in the textiles sector. The program has an investment fund of up to £20 million to be disbursed over a 5 year period with up to £5 million for this call. Eligibility extends to NGOs, UK-based non-profit organizations, companies, and educational institutions. Priority will be given to projects in Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Ghana, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Nepal. The deadline for submitting applications is 14 December 2022. Link to SMEP
King Baudouin Foundation — Enterprises for SDGs
The Business Partnership Facility (BPF) awards subsidies to support and develop private sector involvement in Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in developing countries. Projects submitted under this call must contribute to achieving at least one clearly identified SDG. The BPF provides non-refundable grants between €50 thousand and €200 thousand that represent a maximum 50% of the total investment. Eligible countries include several from Asia, Latin America, the Middle East and North Africa, and Sub-Saharan Africa (full list of eligible countries is provided in the call). Partnerships must comprise actors from the private sector, civil society, academia and/or the public sector, with at least one organization from the for-profit private sector. Yale University — Yale Young African Scholars 2023
Yale Young African Scholars (YYAS) offers an academic summer program for secondary school students from across Africa. The program offers online and in-person programs in four interdisciplinary sessions on Innovations in Science & Technology and Solving Global Challenges. Admitted participants will have access to pre-recorded videos before the start of the program and attend live sessions. There is no tuition cost to participate in the program. Trust for Sustainable Living — Schools Sustainability Challenge
The Trust for Sustainable Living (TSL) Schools Sustainability Challenge is a video contest for schools around the world. Schools are invited to create a short video (max. 1 minute) showcasing their best messages on ‘My Local Sustainability Challenges’. Schools have to register a Teacher Champion to participate. Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit — Support to Micro and Small Enterprises
WIDU.africa supports job creation in Africa by redirecting remittances from the African diaspora in Europe into micro and small businesses of relatives or friends in participating African countries. The WIDU Grant supports new and existing businesses with up to €2,500. Currently, WIDU offers local calls targeting green businesses in Kenya and Ethiopia to support enterprises interested in building a sustainable green future in their communities. Target sectors include renewable energy, agriculture, and reduction of waste. Applicants need to either have an existing small business or a concrete business idea.
