U.S. Mission to the Democratic Republic of Congo — Funding for Community Organizations

The Ambassador’s Special Self-Help (ASSH) Program is a grants program that seeks to improve community-based natural resource management. ASSH announces an open competition for organizations in the Democratic Republic of Congo to submit applications to carry out small, community-based activities. Funding aims at assisting community groups to develop lasting, self-sustaining projects with focus on vulnerable populations. Small grants of up to US$16 thousand are available. European Commission — Civil Society Development in Uzbekistan

The European Commission (EC) seeks to strengthen non-governmental actors and promote cooperation between civil society organizations to contribute to social change and sustainable development in Uzbekistan. One priority area is the Green Deal (i.e. climate change, environment). Applicants may request between €300 thousand and €450 thousand. Eligibility extends to non-profit organizations. European Commission — Sustainable Development of the Prespa Lake Area

The European Commission (EC) aims to support eco-friendly socio-economic development in the Prespa Lake Area (North Macedonia). The priorities of this call for proposal are: sustainable eco-friendly tourism and improving cross-border exchanges and cooperation with Albania and Greece for the preservation of the area. The European Commission (EC) seeks proposals to establish a regional mechanism for the protection of environmental defenders in Mesoamerica. The overall amount made available under this call is €3 million. Global Biodiversity Information Facility — Data Papers on Soil Biodiversity

The Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) announces a new call for authors to submit and publish data papers on soil biodiversity. Papers will be published in a special collection of Biodiversity Data Journal. The publisher Pensoft will waive the article processing fee (normally €650) for the first 40 accepted data paper manuscripts. The deadline to receive proposals is 22 September 2023. Reversing Environmental Degradation in Africa and Asia — Project Grants

REDAA invites proposals for locally led initiatives to improve evidence, tools, and governance that can help people and nature thrive together in Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia and Southeast Asia. Successful proposals will receive medium-scale grants between £200 thousand and £500 thousand for research-to-action initiatives lasting two to four years. Applications close 31 July 2023. Dubai Municipality — Dubai International Award for Best Practices

The Dubai Municipality, in collaboration with UN Habitat, offers Best Practices Awards for outstanding contributions that demonstrate valuable contributions to sustainable urban development. The five award categories include one on urban food systems, and one on addressing climate change and reducing pollution. The competition is open to governments, nonprofits, companies, universities and individuals. Total award prizes sum up to US$1 million. Winners will be announced at the awarding ceremony of the 13th cycle in Dubai. The deadline to receive submissions is 31 August 2023. Link to the award

New Zealand Aid Program — Collaborate Pacific Fund

Collaborate Pacific aims to support effective governance, leadership, regional cooperation, and sustainable development in the Pacific. The fund supports small-scale activities in thematic priority areas: Agriculture, Climate Change, Oceans and Fisheries, Renewable Energy, and many other development priorities. Funding can cover travel (including transport, accommodation, and meals) and event costs (including hosting costs). Pacific Island citizens, NGOs, government agencies, and civil society are encouraged to apply. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Find out more

Global Youth Climate Action Fund — Microgrants 2023

The Global Youth Climate Action Fund (GYCAF) makes microgrants to finance youth-led climate action in communities vulnerable to the effects of climate change. Focus areas include smart agriculture to ensure food sustainability, clean energy for local communities, protecting marine life and mitigating climate catastrophes, and biodiversity conservation. Grants range from US$500 to US$1000. The fund targets youth-led organizations and networks seeking funding for their projects and businesses. The application deadline is 16 June 2023. BirdLife International — Conservation of Natural Grasslands

The BirdLife in the Americas seeks proposals for the conservation and research of natural grasslands and their birds in the region. The “Small Grants for Grassland Conservation” are aimed at individuals working or conducting research in grassland conservation. The prioritized countries for this call are Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Paraguay, and Uruguay. Applicants may request up to US$12 thousand in funding for their project.
