The Innovate Green Competition (IGC) is a cooperative initiative that aims to stimulate entrepreneurship within university students in the MENA region. Individuals or groups of up to 3 university students with innovative solutions addressing environmental challenges are invited to apply to the competition. One member from each of the top three finalists will be invited to the 4th UN Environment Assembly (UNEA-4) in Nairobi (March 2019). The winners receive cash prizes of up to US$10 thousand. ZHAW Zurich University of Applied Sciences — Mobility Grants with South Asia and Iran 2019
Mobility grants encourage early-career Swiss researchers who seek the possibility to gain experience in international research and development projects in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Iran, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan or Sri Lanka. Applicants from South Asia or Iran who wish to visit Switzerland for research purposes need to be scientists with a government accredited university or public research institute. For applicants from South Asia or Iran the fund may cover living allowances, public transport within Switzerland and a contribution towards research and local conference costs (up to CHF 2,500 per month during maximum 3 months). Funds will be disburses to the Swiss sending and/or host institute only, therefore international applicants should seek a partnership with ZHAW. European Commission — Disaster Prevention and Preparedness
The European Commission seeks to identify and finance projects aimed at strengthening cooperation within Europe on disaster prevention and preparedness. Prevention projects may be any actions aimed at reducing risks or mitigating adverse consequences of disasters for people, the environment and property, including cultural heritage. Preparedness projects focus on strengthening preparedness for responding to emergencies, environment and marine pollution. The EU co-funding rate amounts to 85 % of total eligible costs, with a maximum EU contribution of EUR 1 million for grants awarded under the internal budget (EU countries) and EUR 400 thousand for grants awarded under the external budget (neighboring countries). Eligibility extends to private entities, public entities, and international organisations established in the European Union or Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine, Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Palestine and Tunisia. Open Society Foundations — Civil Society Scholar Awards 2019-2020
The Civil Society Scholar Awards (CSSA) provide grants to doctoral students and university faculty members from Africa, Eurasia, Eastern Europe, MENA region, Central Asia, South Asia and the Caribbean (eligible countries are listed in the announcement). Subject areas include sustainable development and natural resource management, among others. Eligibility extends to PhD students of relevant fields studying at universities inside or outside of their home country; or full-time faculty members (minimum of a Master’s degree) teaching at universities in their home country. India Department of Science and Technology — Technological Innovation Fund
The Department of Science and Technology (India) and the National Technological Innovation Authority (Israel) announce the 4th India-Israel Technological Innovation Fund. The objective of this programme is to respond to the global issues concerning science & technology for the water, energy and agricultural sector while developing technologies that can be commercialized and localized within 2 years. University of Applied Sciences Western Switzerland — MENA Young Scientists Mobility Grants
The “young scientists’ mobility grant” aims to develop new research partnerships and collaborations between Switzerland and MENA countries. Priority countries under this call are: Egypt, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine, Qatar, Tunisia, and the United Arab Emirates. Mobility grants can be awarded to young scientists who hold a Bachelor or Master’s degree (no PhD) and have less than 6 years of professional research experience. The call is open for activities and research visits in all scientific disciplines and fields of research. The applicant’s mobility visit should have a minimum duration of 4 weeks and with a maximum of CHF5 thousand per grant. (Note: The application form must be completed by the Swiss main applicant). GROW Fellows will receive a travel allowance of US$5 thousand to cover travel and research costs associated with the international research collaboration. Belmont Forum — Research for Ocean Sustainability
The Belmont Forum calls for global partnerships of academics and non-academics to address conservation and the sustainable use of the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development. This call aims to support medium-size research projects with a direction of three to four years, with a recommended budget of up to €1.5 million. Research consortia must include at least three participating partner organizations established in three different countries to be eligible under this call.
