Climate Tracker — Drylands Journalism Fellowship

Climate Tracker gives young journalists from Africa the opportunity to receive training, attend and cover Global Landscapes Forum 2021 (June 2021). The digital conference focused on Africa’s drylands and how integrative restoration practices. 5 journalists will receive a storytelling grant to produce more in-depth pieces, as a follow-up from the conference. Canada Fund for Local Initiatives — Community Projects in Lebanon

The Canada Fund for Local Initiatives invites proposals that meet the needs of local communities in Lebanon. The priorities under this call include the environment. The average contribution is C$20 thousand to C$50 thousand per project. Eligibility extends to local community organizations, non-profit organizations, and academic institutions. International Development Research Centre — Gender in STEM Research Initiative

Canada’s International Development Research Centre (IDRC) announces a new funding opportunity to advance gender analysis and women’s leadership in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields. This initiative will support university-led consortia to expand and deepen scholarship in low- and middle-income countries, particularly in Africa, on the challenges and opportunities that women scientists experience in STEM fields. IDRC will provide CA$1 million to CA$1.25 million per research consortium. The call is open to public universities from low- and middle-income countries in Africa, Asia, or Latin America/Caribbean. Netherlands Organization for International Cooperation in Higher Education — Skill Development of Women

Nuffic announces a grant program to develop and strengthen the skills of women and young girls. The program is aimed at professionals and organizations that provide education and training within the priority themes of the Dutch government (Water, Food and Nutrition Security, Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights, and Security and Rule of Law). Grants can be used for training initiatives and capacity building programs that address specifically the needs of women. The maximum subsidy is €75 thousand per tailor-made training. The call is open to the following countries: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Congo (DRC), Egypt, Ethiopia, Iraq, Jordan, Kenya, Lebanon, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Palestinian Territories, Rwanda, Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan, Tunisia, and Yemen. European Union — Agricultural Infrastructure in Lebanon

The European Union seeks to enhance resilient livelihoods and food security of host communities and Syrian refugees in Jordan and Lebanon through the promotion of sustainable agricultural development. The grants will support agricultural land reclamation, construction of concrete or earth water reservoirs, in addition to other complementary works. European Commission — Biodiversity and Ecosystems Protection

The European Commission (EC) supports biodiversity and ecosystems protection through community-based conservation and the application of environment legislation in Lebanon. Local conservation activities may include the management and creation of Protected Areas, integrated urban planning approaches, and enhancing the use of evidence and science in environmental policy-making. The overall amount made available under this call for proposals is €6,5 million. Eligibility extends to non-profit organizations. The application deadline is 18 June 2021. More here

International Centre for Biosaline Agriculture — Arab Women Leaders in Agriculture

The International Centre for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA) seeks applications for the Arab Women Leaders in Agriculture “Awla Fellowship.” The Awla Fellowship is a capacity building program and research fellowship for early- and mid-career female professionals in agriculture. Participants receive research and development training, coaching and mentoring to guide their career development. Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund — Biodiversity Conservation in the Mediterranean Basin (Lebanon)

The Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF) invites Letters of Inquiry (LOIs) for small grants (up to US$20 thousand) for projects that support the sustainable management of water catchments through integrated approaches for the conservation of threatened freshwater biodiversity in Lebanon. Eligibility extends to non-governmental organizations, community groups, universities and private enterprises. The ecosystem profile technical summary is available in English and French. European Commission — Climate for Cities

The European Union aims to support Southern Neighborhood cities in their energy and climate transition. Therefore, the European Commission calls for proposals that foster local integrated approaches that ultimately improve societal cohesion locally. Proposals should include a coherent package of activities that encompasses a combination of environmentally sound infrastructure components as well as capacity building and awareness raising activities. Grant funding ranges from €2,5 million to €3,5 million. Please be aware that the EU will not cover more than 30% of the infrastructure component of the project. In order to be eligible for a grant, the lead applicant must be a nonprofit making local authority, local public education, academic or research organization in Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Palestine, Syria, or Tunisia. French Agency for Ecological Transition — Mediterranean Climate Change Adaptation Awards

Mediterranean Climate Change Adaptation Awards reward exemplary and concrete actions to adapt to climate change in the Mediterranean. The competition is aimed at local authorities, universities, companies and NGOs (in partnership with a local public stakeholder) which take action and develop solutions to adapt the Mediterranean regions to the changing climate. Selected partners receive tailored support (study tour, meetings with technical and financial partners), invitations to an international workshop (ECCA 2021), and international promotion.
