Arab Council for the Social Sciences — Postdoctoral Fellowships 2018-2019

The Arab Council for the Social Sciences announces its fifth cycle of postdoctoral fellowships for junior Arab scholars. The program is open to individuals who completed their PhD within the past three years, and who are nationals or residents of countries in the League of Arab States. The fellowship provides for full costs over nine months in the proposed country/countries of residence where the fellow will reside. The thematic focus is open. The program has a special interest in attracting foreign-trained Arab scholars back to the region.The application deadline is 15 June 2018. Link

European Commission — Combat Wildlife Trafficking in Asia

The European Commission calls for concept notes on combatting wildlife trafficking and forest crime in the Greater Mekong Region, Malaysia and China. Submitted projects may focus on strengthening the role of indigenous and local community involvement in combatting wildlife trafficking and forest crime, activities that seek to improve security and livelihoods of targeted groups, and activities that seek to limit demand for Asiatic wildlife and forest products, among others. The overall amount made available under this call is €8 million. Eligibility extends to non-profit organizations established in a member state of the European Union, in an OECD member country, or in Cambodia, China, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam. U.S. Department of State — Protecting Forests

The U.S. Department of State announces a funding opportunity for activities under the “Protecting Forests, Sourcing Responsibly” project. Projects should focus on actively developing and implementing REDD+ programs to meet climate and conservation goals as well as reduce emissions from deforestation and forest degradation, and improve rural livelihoods in developing countries. Projects may request up to US$740,740 for 36 months. Eligibility is limited to U.S. and foreign non-profit organizations and educational institutions. Alice and Global Entrepreneurship Network — Global Pitch Competition for Social Entrepreneurs

Alice and Global Entrepreneurship Network (GEN), along with partners Johnson & Johnson and Dell, invites applications for Pitch with Purpose, a global pitch competition for social enterprises centered around solutions to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Three finalists will be invited to pitch live in front of a panel of judges, funders and media in October 2018. Japan Foundation Center for Global Partnership — Abe Fellowships 2018

The Abe Fellowship encourages international research in the social sciences and related disciplines on topics of pressing global concern — including climate change, sustainable urbanization, environmental degradation, and other cross-cutting issues that advance global problem solving from a transnational perspective. The fellowship program is open to citizens of Japan and the USA, as well as to nationals of other countries who can demonstrate serious long-term affiliations with research communities in Japan or the USA. Caterpillar Foundation — Grants for Environment and Basic Needs

Internationally, the Caterpillar Foundation has supported projects in tropical forest conservation and afforestation; water and sanitation; food and agriculture; alternative (low-carbon) transportation systems; urban waste recycling; and other themes related to environment and natural resources. The Foundation makes grants to nonprofit organizations such as development NGOs, universities and institutes, foundations, museums, conservation groups, and others. Lincoln Institute of Land Policy — Fellowships on Land Policy and Urban Development in Latin America

The Program on Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) of the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy invites applications for its 2018 thesis fellowships. Fellowships will be awarded in the amounts of US$5 thousand for master’s theses, and US$10 thousand for doctoral theses, to students at universities in Latin America and North America who are in the mid to final stages of their thesis work. Thomson Reuters Foundation — Diversity and Resilience Programme

The Thomson Reuters Foundation invites applications for its reporting workshop ‘Diversity and Resilience in a Rapidly Changing World’ at the European Alpbach Forum in Austria (August 2018). The workshop will tackle the unintended consequences of the Industrial or Green Revolutions. Participants will have access to experts from the worlds of business, politics, culture and civil society. The Thomson Reuters Foundation will cover the visa, travel, accommodation costs and participation fee of all participants. Government of Canada — Women’s Economic Empowerment in Ghana

The Government of Canada seeks preliminary proposals (stage I) under the Innovation for Women’s Economic Empowerment in Ghana call. (Note: This may include one or more categories of the Terra Viva Grant Directory). Proposals must contribute to the achievement of enhanced economic empowerment, well-being and inclusive economic growth for women in Ghana. Successful pre-proposals will be invited to submit a full project (stage II) and be considered for funding, receiving between $5 million and $10 million over a period of five years.
