SEED — Replicator Workshop for Eco-Enterprises

The SEED Replicator program offers incubation workshops to identify opportunities for enterprise creation and to guide aspiring entrepreneurs and business owners looking for partnerships to build an eco-inclusive business model. Successful alumni can apply for a SEED Grant which pays for your immediate necessary activities, measures or machinery required to establish the new enterprise. SEED Replicator Program currently invites applications from entrepreneurs in South Africa. Participation is free, although participants need to cover their transportation costs and accommodation. Smithsonian Institution — Fellowship Program 2024

The Smithsonian Institution annually awards fellowships for independent study or research at one or more of the Smithsonian’s 19 units and research centers, including the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI). The awards include: graduate student fellowships; predoctoral fellowships; postdoctoral fellowships; and senior fellowships. Stipends and allowances vary from US$8 thousand for two weeks to up to US$55 thousand per year, depending on the applicant’s experience. The fellowship program is open to qualified applicants worldwide. Applicants contact Smithsonian’s staff members (find link in the announcement) to identify potential advisors, and to determine the feasibility of their proposed research. Yale University — Young Global Scholars Program

Yale Young Global Scholars (YYGS) offers two-week academic summer programs for high school students from all around the world. The program offers four interdisciplinary sessions on campus at Yale (USA), including sessions on Innovations in Science & Technology and Solving Global Challenges. YYGS offers the opportunity for students to apply for need-based financial aid. Furthermore, YYGS will waive the application fee if it constitutes a significant financial burden for the student’s family. The application deadline is 04 January 2024. MDPI — Remote Sensing Young Investigator Award 2024

MDPI, a publisher of peer-reviewed, open access journals, invites nominations for the Remote Sensing 2024 Young Investigator Award. The winner will receive CHF2000. This prize will be given to one young investigator in recognition of their contribution to the advancement of remote sensing science or applications. MDPI is a publisher of peer-reviewed, open access journals. The publisher makes several awards in the category “Plants.” MDPI currently invites nominations for the Plants Best Paper Award, the best Plant PhD Thesis Award, and Plant Travel Award. Winner will receive CHF500 in prize money. The deadlines for nominations are 31 March 2024 for the Plants Best Paper Award, 31 January 2024 for the Plant PhD Thesis Award, and 31 October 2023 for the Plant Travel Award. Click here

MDPI — Remote Sensing Travel Award 2024

MDPI, a publisher of peer-reviewed, open access journals, invites applications for the 2024 Remote Sensing Travel Awards. Remote Sensing will make two awards of CHF800 each to two selected PhD students to present an oral presentation and/or poster at an international conference in 2024. Garden Club of America — Awards in Tropical Botany and Horticulture

The Garden Club of America (GCA) offers several grants, prizes, and fellowships for students enrolled at universities in the USA, including some awards that have a tropical focus. The GCA Awards in Tropical Botany are open to PhD candidates (application deadline is 15 January). The Anne Chatham Fellowship in Medicinal Botany is open to PhD students and recent PhD graduates (deadline is 31 January). The Lou McCandless Marks Scholarship in Tropical Horticulture is restricted to U.S. citizens who are graduate students or advanced undergraduate students (deadline is 01 February). Global Landscapes Forum — Restoration Stewards

The Restoration Stewards program supports the work of young restoration practitioners and their teams through funding, mentorship, and training to deepen the impact of youth-led restoration projects. Teams receive a grant of €5 thousand to develop their restoration project and raise awareness among their local communities about the importance of ecosystem restoration and healthy landscapes. TREE Fund — Funding for Arboriculture and Urban Forestry

The Jack Kimmel International Grant Program makes grants to researchers in arboriculture and urban forestry worldwide. Projects of one to three years are funded to a maximum of US$10 thousand. In 2023, the grant program will be focused specifically on Arboriculture; Tree Health; and Risk Assessment. To apply, applicants have to send a brief Letter of Inquiry (LOI) before 15 September 2023. TREE Fund — Research in Arboriculture

The John Z. Duling Grant Program offers funding up to US$25 thousand during 1-3 years to support exploratory work in the early stages of untested but potentially transformative research in arboriculture. In 2023, the program will focus on Propagation, Plant Selection, Development of New Varieties, and Planting/Establishment. Applicants can be of any national or ethnic origin.
