World Federation of Science Journalists — Reporting Grant

The Louise Behan Reporting Grant supports science journalists in the Global South who are reporting on matters of interest in their country or region. The grant offers two or three awards of between US$750 and US$1,000 annually. This support is intended to enhance the career of each recipient, as well as to enhance the quality of science journalism in the recipient’s country. Canada Fund for Local Initiatives — Community Projects in Tunisia

The Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) invites proposals that meet the needs of local communities in Tunisia. CFLI provides funding to projects that implement environment and climate action projects focusing on adaptation and mitigation, water management, and other thematic priorities. The average contribution is C$50 thousand per project (in exceptional cases, CFLI may grant up to C$100 thousand). Legacy Landscapes Fund — Conservation of Terrestrial Landscapes and Buffer Zones

Legacy Landscapes Fund announces its first open call for proposals. Legacy Landscapes Fund (LLF) is a grant-making institution focused on the world’s most important protected areas and their buffer zones. “Legacy Landscapes” (LL) are terrestrial landscapes covering a contiguous area of at least 200 thousand hectares (2000 km²) that are ecologically largely intact and of global significance. LLF’s Sustaining Grant program supports the LL with a $15 million grant in tranches of $1 million per year over 15 years. For its Sustaining Grants, LLF requires a minimum co-financing of $5 million. BIOPAMA — Medium Grants Eastern and Southern Africa

Biodiversity and Protected Areas Management (BIOPAMA) supports community-based organizations engaged in the conservation of biodiversity to carry out sustainable conservation measures in protected and conserved areas. Grant size can vary from €100 thousand to €200 thousand. Only partnerships between a non-governmental organization and a community-based organization are eligible to apply. Biodiversity and Protected Areas Management (BIOPAMA) aims to address priorities for action to improve the management and governance of protected and conserved areas, and the sustainable use of natural resources and livelihoods of surrounding local communities. Grant size can be up to €200 thousand (5% co-funding from the applicant is required). Eligibility extends to non-governmental organizations and community-based organizations. Grant size can vary from €200 thousand to €400 thousand (5% co-funding from the applicant is required). Eligibility extends to non-governmental organizations and community-based organizations. U.S. Department of State — Supporting Environmental Defenders in Latin Americ

The U.S. Department of State announces an open competition for organizations interested in submitting applications for a project to strengthen support for environmental defenders in Latin America. DRL prioritizes countries and communities in Latin America where violence against environmental defenders is most acute. The total funding available under this call is US$2 million. DRL welcomes applications from U.S.-based and foreign-based non-profit organizations, institutions of higher education; and businesses. The closing date for applications is 23 April 2022. UNESCO — Creation of Geoparks

UNESCO and the Global Geoparks Network (GGN) make grants to support the creation of geoparks in Small Island Developing States. Geoparks are sites and landscapes of international geological significance that are managed with a holistic concept of protection, education and sustainable development. UNESCO offers tailor-made consultancy services specifically designed to support local teams to develop a UNESCO Geopark project. Earth Journalism Network — Introductory Biodiversity Course for Journalists

The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) launches an introductory biodiversity course for journalists – “From Microbes to Rainforests”. The online course is self-paced and designed to help journalists reporting on biodiversity to better understand the most pressing issues, from conservation to climate change to synthetic biology. Oak Foundation — Marine Conservation, Climate Change, and Wildlife Trade

The Oak Foundation makes grants in several thematic areas, including Environment. Oak’s grants in the sub-theme of marine conservation focus on industrial fishing, small-scale fisheries, and plastics pollution. The Foundation also makes grants to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in North America, Europe, and some emerging economies, e.g., Brazil, China, and India. The Foundation’s sub-theme on illegal wildlife trade aims to conserve populations of African elephants and rhinos by curbing their illegal hunting and trade. Most grants range from US$25 thousand to US$7 million. Applicants that meet the Foundation’s requirements can submit letters of inquiry at any time. More about the application process
