The annual St Andrews Prize for the Environment recognizes significant contributions to environmental conservation in the developing world. The subject areas include human-animal conflicts; water and biodiversity; sanitation; air quality; solar power; food supply; waste and recycling; environmental justice; and others. Applications are invited from individuals, multi-disciplinary teams, and community groups. Research projects will not be considered. The Prize consists of an award of US$100 thousand and a medal. International Climate Initiative — Ideas Competition Brazil
The International Climate Initiative (IKI) holds an ideas competition prior to funding or commissioning projects through the IKI Country Call Brazil. Interested implementing organizations are invited to submit a project outline. The funding volume provided by the IKI is a minimum of €8 million to a maximum of €30 million per project. Eligible organizations include Non-governmental organizations, universities and research institutions, international institutions, and private sector companies. GreenLens — Photo Competition
GreenLens seeks ASEAN youths to submit original photos accompanied by narratives addressing environmental challenges. The project aims to enhance social-environmental awareness among ASEAN youths. Participants are invited to submit original photos along with narratives addressing environmental challenges with a specific focus on the theme of Climate Change. Winners receive up to US$250. The photo competition is open to individuals from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and Timor-Leste. United Nations Environment Program — Young Champions of the Earth 2024
The Young Champions of the Earth honors young people from around the world with outstanding ideas to protect and restore the environment. UNEP seeks ideas and solutions that showcase nature’s potential in addressing the triple planetary crisis of climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution and waste. The winner receives US$20 thousand in seed funding. Eligibility extends to young environmentalists with at least 6 months of experience in protecting or restoring the environment. Inter-American Development Bank — Bioeconomy Entrepreneurship in the Amazon Basin
The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) seeks to support innovative bio-businesses in the Amazon Basin capable of supporting the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and increasing the resilience of targeted value chains and ecosystems in the Amazon region. Applicants can apply for technical assistance in the order of US$ 250 thousand to a maximum of US$ 500 thousand. World Land Trust — Land Purchase for Conservation
The Trust provides funding for the initial acquisition of land that has conservation importance. It also funds additional activities related to protection, biodiversity monitoring, education, outreach, habitat restoration, and species reintroduction. The Trust works with legally registered and experienced conservation NGOs based in developing countries. Rufford Foundation — Grants for Nature Conservation
The Rufford Foundation makes grants for nature conservation undertaken by small and medium-sized organizations for projects in the developing world. The Foundation prefers projects that are pragmatic, and that have a significant human element. There are no restrictions by nationality or country of residence. Grant applications are made in sequential stages: first grant, second grant, booster grants, and completion grant. Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World — Early-Career Fellowship
The Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) supports female scientists in Sub-Saharan Africa and the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) with doctoral fellowships in the natural sciences. The early-career fellowships are for the pursuit of a doctoral degree at a host institution in a developing country that is not the applicant’s home country. The Fellowship is for two years and provides up to US$50 thousand. Applicants should be qualified young women science graduates (generally below 40 years of age), who have an M.Sc. degree or outstanding B.Sc. in the natural sciences.
