European Investment Bank Institute — Social Innovation Tournament

The Social Innovation Tournament recognizes and supports the best European social entrepreneurs with projects focusing on the environment (with a special emphasis on biodiversity and ecosystem conservation). Prizes range from €10 thousand to €75 thousand. In 2023, the Special Category prizes will go to projects focusing on sustainable cities and communities. Finalists participate in a training program and benefit from grants programs, participation in conferences around Europe and access to a network of investors. The tournament is open to social enterprises, private sector companies, NGOs, government bodies and universities. The deadline for proposal submission is 23 February 2023. Participate

Solution Search — Changing Unsustainable Trade

Rare’s Center for Behavior & the Environment and partners seek existing solutions that are changing behaviors to help solve the world’s most challenging environmental problems. For this year’s contest, Solutions Search seeks proven behavior-change initiatives in Latin America and the Caribbean that reduce the unsustainable/illegal wildlife trade. Contest entrants get access to capacity building, workshops, and networking opportunities to further refine and scale their solution. Two winners will win US$20 thousand. Any organization or institution worldwide is eligible (e.g. city government, business, non-profit, university, etc.). Individuals are not eligible to enter. United Nations — World Wildlife Day Film Showcase

The United Nations World Wildlife Day organizes a youth art contest along the theme of “Partnerships for Wildlife Conservation”. Organizers seek art that highlights people making a difference for wildlife. The contest is open to artists from the ages of 4 to 18, entrants will choose a species that has benefited from conservation, and then illustrate it as an individual animal or in its native habitat. German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development — GSMA AgriTech Accelerator

The GSMA AgriTech Accelerator aims to support the growth of innovative, revenue-generating digital agriculture solutions that support smallholder farmers’ livelihoods and resilience to climate change. The GSMA will provide up to 10 selected applicants with technical assistance for a period of two years to support the scaling of their digital solutions. The application deadline is 10 February 2023. African Leadership Forum — Youth Leadership Competition

The African Leadership Forum (ALF) invited applications for the Youth Leadership Competition. The theme is “Promoting African intra-trade to unlock agricultural potential in Africa”. African citizens between the age of 18 – 25 years are invited to submit essays on possible solutions to unlock Africa’s agricultural potential. A grand prize of US$2,000 will be awarded to the overall winner. The deadline for submitting entries is 10 January 2023. Details

Student Energy Summit — Video Contest

The Student Energy Summit announces a video contest focused on the theme “Reimagining the Future with Renewable Energy.” The winners of the video contest will receive fully-funded participation in the Student Energy Summit 2023 in Abu Dhabi (November 2023). Mahathir Science Award Foundation — Award for Tropical Sciences

The Mahathir Science Award recognizes scientists, institutions or organizations worldwide who have made contributions and innovations towards solving problems in the tropics through science and technology. This award accepts nominations in the following fields: Tropical Agriculture; Tropical Architecture and Engineering; Tropical Medicine; and Tropical Natural Resources. The winner receives US$100 thousand, a gold medal and a certificate. The nomination for the award closes on 01 March 2023. Mahathir Science Award

Siemens Gamesa — Student Climate Competition

Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy and the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) launch the “Universities for Goal 13” student competition. The competition engages students in the fight against climate change. The winning solution will be awarded US$10 thousand in prize money for further development and implementation. The Competition is open to all undergraduate and graduate students currently enrolled in the universities that are participating in the contest. Milken Institute and Motsepe Foundation — Prize in Green Energy

The Milken-Motsepe Prize in Green Energy is a global competition to reward entrepreneurs and innovators working to address the most pressing and immediate challenges related to access to green, renewable energy. Registration is free and open to anyone, with a US$1 million grand prize available for the winning team, and US$1 million in additional prizes. Teams from anywhere in the world can register and submit designs and business models. An independent panel of expert judges will select semi-finalist teams to receive US$20 thousand each. In the finalist round, teams develop their prototypes and conduct field tests in vulnerable communities in Africa. To compete, green energy designs to be registered by 01 March 2023. The Commonwealth Secretary-General — Global Ocean Competition

The Commonwealth Secretary-General and the Commonwealth Youth Climate Change Network (CYCN) launch a global competition to inspire young people to take action on oceans. The Youth Action Challenge will award three young activists with £1,000 each for their work towards the realization of conserving and sustainably using oceans, seas and marine resources. Applicants must be aged 18-30, and come from a Commonwealth country, to enter. The competition closes on 08 December 2022. Learn more
