Polden-Puckham Charitable Foundation — Environmental Sustainability Grants

The Polden-Puckham Charitable Foundation’s grant making in Environmental Sustainability addresses the pressures and conditions that risk global environmental breakdown. Past projects have included topics in sustainable agriculture; energy conservation; environmental degradation; and reduced consumption. The Foundation funds UK organizations for projects to promote peace and sustainable security — and environmental sustainability — including for international projects. Eligibility extends to UK-registered charities and to organizations in other countries that work through UK-registered charities. Mahathir Science Award Foundation — Award for Tropical Sciences

The Mahathir Science Award recognizes scientists, institutions or organizations worldwide who have made contributions and innovations towards solving problems in the tropics through science and technology. This award accepts nominations in the following fields: Tropical Agriculture; Tropical Architecture and Engineering; Tropical Medicine; and Tropical Natural Resources. Awesome Foundation — Micro-Grants to Projects Worldwide

Each month, the Awesome Foundation makes a micro-grant of US$1,000 to an organization or project worldwide. Projects include initiatives in a wide range of areas including arts, technology, community development, and more. Anyone is eligible for a grant, including individuals, groups, and organizations. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Find out more

Horticulture Innovation Lab — Horticulture Research Projects South Asia

The Horticulture Innovation Lab seeks applications for South Asia regional horticulture research projects. Projects should conduct research designed to increase fruit and vegetable production efficiency in the horticulture sector of Nepal and/or Bangladesh through research and development. The selected research projects will be funded at US$250 thousand up to US$750 thousand. The Horticulture Innovation Lab seeks research applications led by local organizations that are relevant to smallholder farmers and disadvantaged populations. Applicants can be from academic institutions, government sectors, private entities, or other community based organizations. Applications are due 10 January 2023. Horticulture Innovation Lab — Horticulture Research Projects West Africa

The Horticulture Innovation Lab seeks applications for West Africa regional horticulture research projects. The Horticulture Innovation Lab is currently soliciting applications from regionally-based organizations to conduct research to improve the affordability and availability of healthy diets (in particular consumption of horticulture crops) in the West Africa sub-Region. The selected research projects will be funded at US$250 thousand up to US$750 thousand. Horticulture Innovation Lab — Horticulture Research Projects East Africa

The Horticulture Innovation Lab seeks applications for East Africa regional horticulture research projects. The Horticulture Innovation Lab is currently soliciting applications from local organizations to conduct research focused on: pre-harvest and post-harvest management to reduce post-harvest losses; and enhanced marketing and market access of vegetables in the East Africa region. The selected research projects will be funded at US$250 thousand up to US$750 thousand. European Commission — Civil Society Development

The European Commission (EC) aims to promote capacity development of local civil society in Gabon and São Tomé and Príncipe. The action aims to contribute to an inclusive and independent civil society which engages in decision making in the areas of economic development, environment, and food security. Applicants may request up to €300 thousand (Gabon) or €700 thousand (São Tomé and Príncipe) in project funding. Land Innovation Fund — Deforestation-free Agriculture

The Land Innovation Fund (LIF) invites proposals for the implementation of projects that present innovative solutions to address urgent issues on climate and environmental agendas for sustainable, low-carbon, deforestation-free agriculture. This call focuses on the sustainable and deforestation-free soy supply chain in South America’s Cerrado, Gran Chaco, and Amazon biomes. The funding amounts vary depending on the complexity of each proposal, ranging from US$500 thousand to US$2 million. Eligibility extends to non-profit organizations, academic institutions, local agricultural cooperatives and businesses. Proposals are due 11 December 2022. More information

European Commission — Sustainable Food Production

The European Commission (EC) seeks to promote sustainable food production of socially and environmentally inclusive agriculture value chains targeting local markets in Rwanda. The priority of this call for proposals is to promote actions aiming at enhancing food production and availability by Rwandan local producers and cooperatives, including women farmers and women cooperatives. Any grant requested under this call for proposals must fall between €500 thousand and €700 thousand. The lead applicant must be a local authority and be established in Rwanda. European Commission — Adaptation to Climate Change

The “Boosting Resilience and Adaptation to Climate Change (BREACH)” program has the objective to increase systemic resilience to climate change and food crises in Somalia. The European Commission calls for proposals that improve prevention of and preparedness for food crises in communities in vulnerable situations, achieve durable solutions to displacement, and combat the climate crisis through reforestation and land restoration.
