Izele is a conservation network website designed for people and organizations working in biodiversity conservation in Africa. The 2020 Izele Small Grant scheme offers three grants of US$1,500, one each for an Eswatini-, Mozambique- and South Africa-based organization contributing to the conservation of biodiversity. Luc Hoffmann Institute — Diversifying Community Livelihoods from Wildlife
The Luc Hoffmann Institute, the African Leadership University’s School of Wildlife Conservation and the WWF launch a global innovation challenge.The principal aim of the “Beyond Tourism in Africa” challenge is to discover new revenue models that do not depend on tourism, but still enable local communities in Africa to derive income from wildlife. Any individual or team with bold ideas from around the world may apply. Up to 15 ideas will be selected. Successful applicants will win a place in the African Leadership University’s 8-month incubation program. During the incubation program, participants may receive a grant of up to US$10 thousand. The European Commission (EC) seeks to increase energy access of households, public institutions and small enterprises to affordable, reliable and modern energy in Zambia. The EC invites big scale projects that focus on poor and vulnerable women in high density low income townships in Lusaka. Applicants may request a financial contribution of up to €1.9 million. The African Graduate Student Research Fund makes awards to African nationals pursuing graduate degrees in mammalogy. Erbacher Foundation — Support for Rural Development 2021
The Erbacher Foundation supports rural development in subject areas that include livestock husbandry, crop production, drinking water, and environmental protection. The priority countries are India, Tanzania, and Uganda. Applications are invited from Germany charitable organizations involved in development cooperation. United Nations Institute for Training and Research — Social Entrepreneurship Training Program for Women
The UNITAR Social Entrepreneurship Training Program for Women aims to empower women with the knowledge and skills of entrepreneurship to address socio-economic challenges in Africa. The training will be delivered in English and consists of mentoring, pitching, planning, and outcome evaluation. This program is open for women, including members of small and medium enterprises, government agencies and academic institutions, from Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, and Sudan. The Rapid Response Grants aim at increasing the resilience of protected areas and local communities’ livelihoods facing the risks and difficulties of the global COVID-19 pandemic in African, Caribbean and Pacific countries. Any grant requested under this call for proposals must be no more than € 50 thousand. Funding is intended for enhanced management and governance of protected or conserved areas, recovery of protected and conserved areas, and maintaining the livelihoods of local communities whilst effectively contributing to protected areas management. Partnership for Economic Policy — Climate Change in Sub-Saharan Africa
Partnership for Economic Policy (PEP) accepts project proposals on “Climate change in Sub-Saharan Africa: The impacts and responses for women and girls.” The initiative seeks research proposals that address key knowledge gaps in order to more efficiently mitigate the effects of climate change on gender equality. PEP will fund up to four projects with a maximum of US$58 thousand. Each project team must be composed of both researchers and government officials. U.S. Embassy Equatorial Guinea — Self-Help Program
The special self-help program of the U.S. Embassy Malabo supports small, sustainable community-based initiatives that have an immediate and strong impact on the local community. Embassy Malabo expects to support different types of projects: from development projects such as agricultural cooperatives to women’s empowerment and the environment. Grants are typically between US$5 thousand and US$10 thousand per project. All applicants must include a significant community contribution.The Embassy welcomes applications from all Equatorial Guinea-based nonprofit organizations and community based organizations.
