Africa YES Centre — Social Entrepreneurship Training Program

The Africa Young Entrepreneur Support (YES) Program is a 6-month intensive fully sponsored entrepreneurship training that provides young African social entrepreneurs (between 18-29 years) with the resources they need to create impact in their local communities. 30 selected candidates will receive hands-on training sessions, mentorship and access to up to US$15 thousand in grants. Please note that the program requires candidates to be in Nairobi for the entire program period because travel and accommodation is not covered. West African Science Service Center on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use — Master’s Program Climate Change & Marine Sciences

With funding provided by Germany, WASCAL engages in research to help tackle the severe challenges posed by climate change, focusing on West Africa. The WASCAL Graduate Studies Program offers full scholarships to support four master’s and six doctoral programs implemented at ten universities in West African countries. WASCAL’s member countries are Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Niger, Mali, Nigeria, Senegal, and Togo. Doctoral students may spend up to six months at a host institution in Germany. Graduate students have access to the WASCAL research facilities located in various watersheds of West Africa. U.S. Department of State — Wildlife Trafficking and Illegal Mining in West Africa

The U.S. Department of State, Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL), invites applications from qualified U.S. and foreign non-profit organizations (including NGOs), and educational institutions to implement a program entitled “Wildlife Trafficking and Illegal Mining Research Projects.” INL will support programs that improve INL’s knowledge of wildlife trafficking and illegal mining that will help inform future capacity building programs. Netherlands Organisation for International Cooperation in Higher Education — Calls for Joint Proposals on Food and Nutrition Security

Nuffic invites applications for Joint Proposals on Food and Nutrition in Vietnam, Tunisia, Sahel, Mali, and Benin. The Nuffic’s Orange Knowledge Programme aims to strengthen professionals and organisations through education and training. Proposed projects must contribute to end hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition, promote sustainable agriculture, and ensure availability and sustainable management of water for all. Funding per institutional collaboration project is in the range of €600 thousand to €1 million. Deadlines vary per country, please check carefully. National Geographic Society — Stories of Tropical Rainforests

The National Geographic Society (NatGeo) supports storytelling projects that highlight attempts to mitigate or reverse human impacts on tropical rainforests. Priority for this RFP will be given to projects led by journalists and storytellers from countries within the Amazon River basin, Congo River basin, and rainforests in Southeast Asia. Proposals will be funded from US$5 thousand to US$70 thousand. Application deadline for this call is 22 July 2020, however, candidates who wish to submit a Letter of Intent in Spanish, Portuguese, or Bahase need to submit their LOI by 15 July. More information

National Geographic Society — Big Cats Conservation

The National Geographic Big Cats Initiative seeks projects benefiting big cat populations and their habitats via field-based and action-oriented programs in Africa. The current RFP focusses on lion populations in specific African regions (detailed in the call). Although priority will be given to projects focused on lions, projects on leopard and cheetah populations will also be considered. Applicants may request up to $100 thousand. U.S. Agency for International Development — Development of Food Security Activities in Ethiopia

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) seeks applications for funding for the development of food security activities in Ethiopia. USAID plans to award up to four cooperative agreements with the goal to improve food security of vulnerable households in targeted communities, contributing to a sustained reduction in rural poverty. The anticipated funding for all awarded multi-year activities is US$550 million over a five-year period. U.S. and foreign NGOs, as well as public international organizations are eligible to apply. U.S. Department of State — Air Quality Management in East Africa

The Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs, U.S. State Department, announces the “Air Quality Management Community of Practice in East Africa” program. The project targets government entities with the intend to develop, adopt, and implement focused air quality management policies. The program intends to provide US$296,296 in funding to be used for monitoring air pollution, collecting data for policy relevant analysis, and assessing the health impacts, energy, agricultural or other economic benefits of air quality improvements. Countries eligible for funding under this award include: Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda. WASCAL — Master’s Program on Climate Change and Marine Sciences

The Technical University of Atlantic (Cabo Verde) seeks applications for its Master’s Program on Climate Change and Marine Sciences (MP-CCMS). The West African Science Service Center on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use (WASCAL) offers scholarships to African MSc students. The program includes English language training for participants from Francophone countries, three semesters of joint Master’s courses, shipboard training, and a scientific trip to a German partner institution. To eligible for this scholarship, applicants must be citizens of Benin, Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, or Togo. United Nations — Agri-Food Value Chains for Mountain Communities

The Mountain Innovation Program aims to improve the lives of mountain communities and protecting mountain environments around the world. The current opportunity calls for projects that focus on techniques to leverage resources and increase the resilience of mountain communities through the enhancement of agriculture-food value in Guatemala, Rwanda, Papua New Guinea, Lesotho, and Nepal. Only entities working with local civil society organizations and/or community-based organizations in priority countries are eligible to apply.
