The Spirit of Innovation Challenge is a worldwide competition for youth ages 13-18 to create commercially viable products or services to address issues of global sustainability. Categories include “Energy and Environment”. Ideas are submitted by student teams, which can be international, if desired. There is a fee for team registration (discounted rates may apply for qualified title one schools or special circumstances). The MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program funds citizens and residents of Sub-Saharan Africa for graduate studies at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. The fields of study include Environment; Food Security; Sustainable Energy Systems; and others. The Foundation will provide 3-year part-time online Master’s scholarships and 2-year part-time postgraduate diploma scholarships, which will cover the full tuition fees and expenses for accommodation and maintenance. UNESCO invites applications for the UNESCO Young Professionals Program as a starting point for a career at UNESCO. The program is designed for university graduates and young professionals from non- and under-represented Member States. Applicants should have an advanced university degree; be fluent in English or French; and meet other criteria relevant to experience, skills, and age. The Legal Aid Forum Rwanda (LAF) launches the Environmental Journalism Training Program for accredited Rwandan journalists. The program will equip local journalists with essential skills and legal support to effectively report on environmental issues, including environmental crimes, the green economy, climate change, and sustainable adaptation. Up to twelve of the fifteen successful applicants will receive production support to help them produce their stories. Journalists working in any medium or multiple media are welcome to apply. Changemakers for the Planet supports the work of young changemakers, activists, and innovators from Sub-Saharan Africa who address the planetary crisis, such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution. The program provides young leaders with in-person summits, capacity building, and funding for collaborative efforts. The program is open to applications aged 18-35. Scottish Graduate School for Arts & Humanities EARTH Scholarship enables international research collaborations between PhD and early-career researchers and Scottish universities. The program aims to promote the role of environmental arts in addressing the climate emergency and their capacity for interdisciplinary research within STEAM contexts. The program will provide scholarships for researchers based outside the UK to come to Scotland to undertake in-person exchanges for up to 3 months in 2025. The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) accepts applications for a Journalist Fellowship that supports Infrastructure Reporting in Southeast Asia to equip early- to mid-career journalists with training, mentoring, and story grants to report on infrastructural development and its impacts on the environment and human rights. EJN expects to award 16 story grants with an average budget of US$2,000 each. Participants can be from Malaysia, Brunei, Timor Leste, Indonesia, Singapore, and the Philippines. The RISK Award seeks operational field projects in risk reduction and disaster management. The prize will provide financial support of €100 thousand to projects dedicated to increasing people’s resilience to risks and disasters, especially in developing countries. UNESCO announces the launch of a grant scheme to support youth projects across all regions. UNESCO will support youth-led projects that address challenges affecting the well-being and development of young people and their communities. Grants between US$5,000 and US$10 thousand will be awarded to young leaders, entrepreneurs, and youth organizations to help them create and implement solutions for social impact.
