The Gbowee Peace Foundation awards scholarships for postgraduate masters at the University of Dundee (Scotland). Subjects areas include environmental science, energy petroleum and mineral law and policy, and others. The Africa Scholarships are open to female students who are currently Liberian, Nigerian or Ghanaian nationals permanently resident in these countries. The student micro-project program offers students in the Wallonia region of Belgium the opportunity to set up a project in partnership with students from a developing country. Topic areas may include water resources, female empowerment, and several others. The ARES program offers financial support of up to € 15 thousand per micro-project. The student outreach program offers students in the Wallonia region of Belgium the opportunity to raise awareness and organize activities related to development aid issues. The ARES program offers financial support between € 1,500 – 4,500 per outreach project. Past projects include the organization of an ‘awareness day around the theme of agribusiness’ and a ‘sensitization day for graduates on socio-environmental conflicts and management of natural resources in Peru’. Consultative Group to Assist the Poor (CGAP) launches its 13th Annual Photos and Videos Contest 2018. The contest seeks striking photographs and short videos that tell the story of how financial services empower poor people and communities in Africa. The grand winner receives a US$ 2,000 gift certificate for photography or video equipment. The 2018 CGAP Photo Contest is open to all photographers and videographers. American Society for Microbiology (ASM), in partnership with the Indo-US Science & Technology Forum (IUSSTF), announces the ASM-IUSSTF Indo-US Professorship in Microbiology. This program seeks to broaden scientific collaboration between India and the United States though travel grants that support research and teaching partnerships. A grant up to US$5 thousand is provided to cover travel costs, visa and contingencies. Funds must be matched by the host institution (note: matching grants may be in-kind contributions). TWIGA is a 4-year project under EU Horizon2020 aimed to transform weather water data into value-added information services. To foster involvement by young scientists and entrepreneurs, TWIGA will organize five hackathons to develop solutions for the agriculture, water, energy, disaster response and risk management sector. The first call is open to teams from Ghana. Similar hackathons will be organized in other parts of Africa later. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd place will receive €1500, €1000, and €500. The Go. Go Love Foundation seeks applications from local charities and non-profit organizations that work with local communities. Thematic areas include WASH, resilience building to climate change, disaster/risk reduction, and others. Applicants may request funding of up to AUD30 thousand over a 1-2 year project period. The current round of funding targets small to medium non-profit organisations working in developing countries in Asia (South-East, South and/or Central), Africa or Central America. Euromena Consulting launches the Euromena Awards – MENA Edition. The awards are intended for companies or innovative projects with social, economic, environmental and/or societal impact. Proposed projects should be related to MENA and/or be established in the region. The RISK Award seeks operational projects in the field of risk reduction and disaster management. The prize will provide financial support of €100 thousand to projects dedicated to increasing people’s resilience to risks and disasters, especially in developing countries. The submitted projects may concentrate on population development, water as a resource, and other risk factors, including climate change. The Global Social Venture Competition (GSVC) is a partnership of business schools in the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Africa to provide aspiring entrepreneurs with mentoring, exposure, and funding to support their social ventures. Past winners include plans for water supply, energy, micro-credit, agricultural technology, ecological building materials, and other environmental themes. The GSVC will award cash prizes up to US$40 thousand. The deadline for the first entry round in all regions is 03 December 2018. Find the competition
