The Youth in Landscapes Initiative invites filmmakers between 18 and 35 years, to create a short film that showcases the power and the potential of youth-led actions and innovations in improving landscape management in communities in Ghana. Selected filmmakers will join the Youth in Landscape Camp being held near Accra (October 2019). The film must be between three and six minutes and can be of any genre or creative narrative. The Invest2Impact Competition seeks to support 100 women-led businesses in East Africa with funding, mentoring and networking opportunities. The competition will award US$20 thousand to a business that is working to address climate change and promote a green economy, among three other categories. The Regional Disaster Assistance Program (RDAP) accepts applications for its Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Small Grants Program. The goal of the program is to increase the capacity of local and national authorities in the region to prepare for and respond to disasters. For that reason, RDAP intends to award projects valued between US$15 thousand and US$ 50 thousand. Organizations eligible to apply include local non-governmental organizations and local universities. Blue Earth supports photography projects that educate the public about threatened cultures, endangered environments, and other social concerns through fiscal sponsorship. Blue Earth provides assistance with fundraising, publishing, and publicity. However, it does not make cash grants to sponsored projects. The next deadline for proposals is 20 January 2020. The aim of the Newton PhD Program offers full-time PhD scholarships for Filipino researchers at a UK higher education institution. The project must fall within the following priority areas (relevant to the Terra Viva Grants Directory): Improving environmental resilience; Improving energy security; Agritech; among other thematic areas. For an applicant to be considered for the DOST-Newton PhD Scholarship, the applicant must be a Filipino Citizen and have already been accepted to a PhD program in the UK. The scholarship will cover travel costs, monthly accommodation and living allowance, tuition fees, and a grant for consumables (up to a maximum of £3 thousand per year). The U.S. Embassy in Kuala Lumpur announces a competition for organizations to submit applications to implement a series of bootcamp programs on youth empowerment and leadership for members of the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) in higher education institutions throughout Malaysia. The organization will receive up to US$100 thousand for the implementation of several workshops (min. 2 days each) aimed at participants ages 18-35 years. Proposed programs should be completed within 12 months. Malaysian institutions, organizations, individuals, U.S. or local non-profit organizations (including think tanks) are eligible to apply. BBSRC accepts applications for strategic training awards of up to 12 months in duration to support research capability addressing current global challenges. The purpose of this call is to build a portfolio of sustainable training resources in research priority areas, focusing on sustainable development in developing countries. Focus areas include sustainable energy; clean air, water and sanitation; resilience to long-term environmental change; sustainable marine resources and agriculture, among others. A total of up to £500 thousand is available to support the training activities. GCRF-STARS applications should be co-created and delivered through training partnerships between the UK partner and organisations from developing countries. The São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) offers seed funding to support the exchange of researchers under the program “São Paulo Researchers in International Collaboration” (SPRINT). The 3/2019 call seeks collaborations with selected partner research organizations in Austria, UK, Canada, Colombia, Belgium, France, Germany, Japan, Netherlands, Sweden, and United States. The fields of joint research interest include environment, energy, and others — varying with each partnership. The Scottish Government’s International Development Small Grants Programme provides project funding in support of the government’s International Development Policy. Applications for grants are invited from incorporated not-for-profit organisations which have a presence in Scotland and an annual turnover of less than £250 thousand. Project grants should focus on any of Malawi, Rwanda, or Zambia in themes of food security; renewable energy; climate change; water; and others. Grants for capacity building and feasibility studies will be accepted in relation to any country designated as medium/low on the UN’s Human Development Index — but with priority for Malawi, Rwanda, and Zambia.
