The French Agency for Development (AFD) seeks applications from Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), preferably in partnership with other international/local non-profit organizations, to enhance the quality of the coastal environment and to contribute in developing the Sri Lankan Blue Economy potential. Proposed projects under this call may focus on, but are not limited to, environmental education, awareness and advocacy, and the preservation of the coastal biodiversity and natural heritage. The U.S. Embassy Hanoi invites proposals for the 2019 Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) Micro-Grant Program. The program offers grants of up to US$ 1,000 to young individuals (aged 18-35 years) and non-profit groups in Vietnam. Projects in the following themes (relevant to the Terra Viva Grants Directory) will be accepted: environmental protection/climate change; disaster preparedness; food security. The Direct Assistance Program (PAD) is a small development program which works directly with communities in developing countries. The current call for proposals is open to local community organizations in Cape Verde, Sao Tome and Principe, and Guinea-Bissau. Projects can request funding of up to €15 thousand. Focus sectors include water and sanitation; environmental protection; economic livelihoods, and food security, among many others. The submission deadline is 04 August 2019. Here

The Council for the Advancement of Science Writing offers travel fellowships to cover the cost of attending the annual New Horizons in Science briefing for journalists. The annual conference brings together top-rank scientists and leading science reporters for an in-depth look at seminal developments in science. Fellows will also have the opportunity to participate in the day-long professional workshops sponsored by the National Association of Science Writers. The maximum reimbursement provided is $1,200. The INK Fellows Program brings together young innovators and change makers from India and other emerging economies in a supportive peer group, and offers them media exposure to accelerate their ability to impact society. Candidates range from ages 18 to 40 in any professional field. Past Fellows represent activities in bamboo construction, control of oil pollution, rice agriculture, wildlife photography, and many others. The application deadline is 17 August 2019. OpenIDEO and GHR Foundation jointly invite proposals that address urgent global challenges in radically new ways. The BridgeBuilder Challenge seeks solutions that connect peace, prosperity, and the planet. Submissions should target a specific, pressing, and solvable need across two or more of these themes. The competition is open to non-profit and for-profit organizations as well as individuals. Proposed projects should not be longer than three years. The selected winners share US$1 million. The International Conference UN-SPIDER aims to contribute to the use of big space data approaches and satellite-based applications in Africa to respond to challenges posed by natural hazards. UN-SPIDER invites applications to participate in the conference, which will take place in Bonn (Germany). Only a very limited number of scholarships (round-trip ticket, room and board expenses during the duration of the event) will be available to participants. The Elsevier Foundation Green and Sustainable Chemistry Challenge seeks to stimulate innovative chemistry research that helps the environment and low-resource communities. Proposals should outline innovative chemistry ideas that tackle some of the developing world’s greatest sustainability challenges. The winning project will receive €50 thousand, the second prize is €25 thousand. The Challenge is open to individuals and non-profit organizations. The deadline for submissions is 15 September 2019. Natural health food producer Rapunzel Naturkost and IFOAM – Organics International, the international umbrella organization for organic agriculture, invite nominations for the ‘ONE WORLD AWARD 2020’ (OWA). The award recognizes innovative ideas, projects and people in three areas of sustainability, including conservation of nature and biodiversity, organic farming, contributions to stop climate change (energy conservation or use of renewable energy), and waste management. The winner will receive €45 thousand in prize money. Nominations can be submitted either by individuals or by organizations. Nominations will be accepted until 30 September 2019. Details 

The Fulbright-National Geographic Storytelling Fellowship provides opportunities for an academic year of international travel and storytelling in up to three countries on a globally significant theme. For the 2020-21 competition, the Fellowship will accept proposals to undertake an in-depth examination of a globally relevant issue (possibly within the thematic areas of the Terra Viva Grant Directory). In addition to financial support, participants will receive training in professional storytelling. Eligibility for the fellowships is limited to U.S. citizens. Applications will be accepted for any country where there is an active Fulbright U.S. Student Program, with the exception of China. Deadline for applications is 08 October 2019. Link to the program
