The Organic Farming Research Foundation (OFRF) offers funding for research on organic farming and food systems and the dissemination of these research results to organic farmers and agricultural and research communities in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Priorities are research on soil health; weed control; pest management; livestock health; climate change; social science research; and research on critical issues. The UNU Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability is the Secretariat for ProSPER.Net (Promotion of Sustainability in Postgraduate Education and Research Network) in the Asia-Pacific region. The ProSPER.Net Leadership Programme helps its participants to develop interdisciplinary skills for sustainable development initiatives in local, regional, or global contexts. This year’s theme is ‘Engineering Approaches to Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Towards Sustainable Development in the Asia-Pacific Region’. U.S. Department of State — Global Innovation through Science and Technology
The U.S. Department of State announces the notice of funding opportunity for the Global Innovation through Science and Technology (GIST) initiative. GIST supports projects that strengthen young innovators and entrepreneurs in low and middle income countries by connecting them with American businesses and experts. Proposed projects must address in-country training activities and pitch competitions; interactive online activities; early-stage investment networks; and website maintenance. Funding of US$1 million will be made available. Eligibility is limited to U.S. non-profit organizations and educational institutions. UNESCO — Ethics of Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability
UNESCO seeks nominations for the Avicenna Prize for Ethics in Science 2019 with a special thematic focus on climate change and environmental sustainability. The prize consists of a gold medal, a certificate, and US$50 thousand. The prize may be conferred upon individuals, institutions, other entities or non-governmental organizations. Australian Government — Australian Aid: Friendship Grants (Round 2)
The Australian Aid: Friendship Grants program supports organisations from across Australia and provides funding for aid activities in the Indo-Pacific. Eligible Australian community organisations are encouraged to apply for funding of AU$30 thousand to AU$60 thousand in three annual grant rounds. The program funds development activities that strengthen an overseas community’s capacity or socio-economic situation and improve the lives of poor and vulnerable people. Mediterranean Marine Protected Areas Network — Grants for Small Projects 2020-2021
MedPAN launches a new call for small projects to support Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in the Mediterranean. The grants will reinforce the management of MPAs from the perspective of integrated coastal zone management and sustainable financing. They will also promote habitat mapping and the protection of marine turtles. MedPAN’s contribution will be €20 thousand per project (matching contributions of 25 % are required). The eligible countries are Albania, Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Montenegro, Tunisia, and Turkey. Netherlands Enterprise Agency — Promoting the Agricultural and Fisheries Sector
The Netherlands Enterprise Agency, the SDG Partnership facility (SDGP), and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs aim to help achieve the following sustainable development goals in developing countries. Focus areas under this call include promoting economic growth in the agricultural and fisheries sector through sustainable and climate-resilient food production systems, among others. Applicants can apply for a subsidy of min. €500 thousand and max. €3 million per project. The National Geographic Society seeks proposals from around the world to find and describe new species, and better understand the patterns of distribution and abundance of poorly known groups of organisms. Please note that NatGeo requires that any expeditions intending to collect specimens have permissions from and operate under the biodiversity legislation of the host country.
