The Smart Farming Challenge, sponsored by BayWa, seeks innovative solutions that use new technologies, ideas and products to support sustainable agriculture and horticulture. BayWa is interested in digital solutions that combine satellite data and Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning to support pasture management, early crop disease identification, and/or yield prediction in horticulture. The winner of the smart farming challenge receives €5 thousand, mentoring, access to field trials and access to BayWa agribusiness and agri-organization networks. European Commission — Youth4Regions Program for Aspiring Journalists
The Youth4Regions Program offers young aspiring journalists the chance to find out what the EU is doing in their region (the EU policy covers topics such as climate change, conservation, and sustainable development). Selected participants will receive mentorship from established journalists in their home country and have the opportunity to take part as a journalist in European Commission press trips to Member States. Accommodation and travel expenses are covered by the European Commission. Applicants must be citizens of a current EU, EU candidate or neighboring country, be between 18 and 30 years old, and have a background in journalism (applications from students are being accepted). Save Our Species — Threatened Species Grants Africa
The SOS African Wildlife Initiative invites proposals for Rapid Action Grants targeting terrestrial or freshwater threatened species in South Africa. Rapid Action Grants are designed to enable immediate responses to threats linked to the COVID-19 crisis and its consequences. Civil Society Organizations and public entities are eligible to apply. Maximum grant size is €100 thousand with no matching funds required. The maximum duration of the project should be 12 months. The deadline for applications is 31 March 2022. EmPower Her seeks to close the financing gap for early-stage clean energy projects in least developed markets by supporting women-led organizations or organizations whose main focus is women’s empowerment. Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF) makes large grants in support of biodiversity conservation in Indonesia with focus on the “Wallacea Biodiversity Hotspot.” Grants are in support of community-based sustainable small-scale fisheries, protection and conservation of endangered marine species, marine protected areas management, and activities that promote improved marine and coastal ecosystems. This call is for large grants of up to US$75 thousand. Eligibility for grants extends to NGOs, community groups, private enterprises, universities, and other civil society applicants. The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) seek candidates to participate in the training workshop on science diplomacy in Trieste (Italy, July/August 2022). The Global Citizen Fellowship Program supports a total of 15 young changemakers from South Africa, Nigeria and Kenya who fight extreme poverty and inequality in their communities. Fellows will go through a multi-phase curriculum, specifically designed to equip them with the skills and tools they need in any future professional environment. Fellows will learn how to use digital technology for social change, storytelling tactics to shift attitudes, and build lasting professional relationships.
