Wild Animal Initiative provides grants for research projects that help us understand and improve the lives of wild animals. Small grants support innovative methods for measuring and monitoring wild animal welfare, population regulation, wildlife rehabilitation and conservation interventions. Grant size varies from US$2 thousand to US$30 thousand. The small grants program is open to anyone, although Wild Animal Initiative is especially interested in supporting postdocs and PhD students pursuing a long-term research career in the field of wild animal welfare, and researchers who have not previously included welfare considerations in their work. The Thomson Reuters Foundation invites journalists to participate in a training program on locally-led adaptation to climate change. This training opportunity offers a chance to understand the impact of climate change at a local level, and learn how to better report on the topic and enhance Civil Society Organizations communications to effectively communicate their message to the media. International Union for Conservation of Nature — Sustainable Environments
The Resilient, Inclusive and Sustainable Environments (RISE) Grant Program supports strategies to prevent gender-based violence in the context of natural resource access and control. For that purpose, RISE seeks partnerships between environmental organizations, Indigenous Peoples’ organizations, local and grassroots communities. RISE seeks to fund up to six projects in the range of US$100 thousand to US$300 thousand each. Projects must be implemented in Central America and the Caribbean, Eastern and Southern Africa, or South and Southeast Asia. Africa Enterprise Challenge Fund — Investing In Women in Agribusiness
The Africa Enterprise Challenge Fund (AECF) seeks applications for the Investing in Women in South Sudan (IIW-SS) program. Projects should focus on enhancing women’s economic empowerment in the honey, sorghum, sesame, shea nut and groundnut value chains in South Sudan to increase incomes, reduce climate risks, and transform livelihoods. Total grant funds requested must be between US$50 thousand and US$750 thousand. Eligibility extends to for-profit enterprises located in South Sudan with demonstrated presence in Central and Eastern Equatoria States. King Boudouin Foundation — Research on Water Availability
The Ernest du Bois Prize offers €20 thousand for doctoral studies on the theme of water availability. The awards are made to young students and engineers in Belgium who are carrying out research on the theme of water and its availability — including issues of protecting reserves, managing pollution, developing processing techniques, and others. Natural Resources Defense Council — Climate Storytelling Fellowship
The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) and partners invite applications to the NRDC Climate Storytelling Fellowship. The Fellowship will grant US$20 thousand to three writers to support revision of a feature screenplay or pilot that engages with climate change in a meaningful way. In addition, each fellowship recipient will receive professional feedback and guidance on their scripts. Canada Fund for Local Initiatives — Community Projects in Libya
The Canada Fund for Local Initiatives invites proposals that meet the needs of local communities in Libya. The priorities under this call include women’s economic rights, decent jobs and entrepreneurship, and investing in the poorest and most vulnerable (which may include agriculture or aquaculture projects), as well as environment, climate action focusing on adaptation and mitigation, and water management. The average contribution is C$20 thousand to C$30 thousand per project. Eligibility extends to local community organizations, non-profit organizations, and academic institutions. Earth Journalism Network — Reporting on the Mediterranean Sea (Tunisia)
The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) offers reporting grants to journalists in Tunisia to support the production of in-depth stories on the scale of unsustainable marine management and biodiversity loss in the Mediterranean Sea. EJN welcomes submissions that highlight the impact on coastal communities, including the loss of sustainable livelihoods, the hardships of small-scale fishers, the decline of valuable ecosystems, and the loss of natural and cultural heritage. German Academic Exchange Service — Leadership for Africa
The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) offers scholarships for qualified applicants from developing countries who enroll at German universities for Masters Degrees. The scholarship program “Leadership for Africa” (LfA) aims to support young refugees and national scholars from Cameroon, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Niger and Senegal at higher education institutions in Germany. The scholarship includes a language course (2-6 months) before the start of the university studies, tuition-fees and a monthly scholarship payment for living expenses.
