The ‘Together we’re better’ competition sponsors current and planned initiatives run by young people that help advance global sustainable development and fight poverty. United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification — “Land for Life” Award 2019
The UNCCD presents the “Land for Life” Award for inspiring efforts in land conservation and management. Eligibility is open to individuals and institutions worldwide that are making a significant and innovative contribution to reduce the impacts of land degradation and desertification. In particular, the focus is on helping communities at risk or forced to abandon their homes due to insecurity deriving from environmental degradation. Award winners will receive a support package from the UNCCD Secretariat to include networking with interested organizations; assistance to promote the winning initiatives nationally and internationally; and opportunities to showcase them at national and international events. National Geographic Society — Himalayan Climate Change
The National Geographic Society seeks research, conservation, and storytelling proposals to advance understanding of environmental and societal changes measured in the Himalayas. NatGeo is especially interested in projects that directly monitor or examine changing temperatures, ice volume or extent, and water pathways, or that examine impacts on at-risk downstream populations. The Department of Science and Technology (India) and the National Technological Innovation Authority (Israel) announce the 4th India-Israel Technological Innovation Fund. The objective of this programme is to respond to the global issues concerning science & technology for the water, energy and agricultural sector while developing technologies that can be commercialized and localized within 2 years. Monsanto Fund — Grants to Strengthen Farming Communities 2019
The Monsanto Fund makes grants to strengthen agricultural communities in several countries around the world. Grants of US$25 thousand and more are available to tax-exempt charitable organizations for activities and projects that address farmers’ education and training; food security; community water and sanitation; and other local needs. Monsanto’s international grants are administered at the country level. The Fund presents a list of eligible countries. Monsanto accepts international applications during two periods each year. Climate Justice Resilience Fund — Grants for Climate Change Adaptation
The Climate Justice Resilience Fund seeks grants applications for community-led, social justice approaches to climate change adaptation and resilience-building. Grants are made to women, youth, and indigenous peoples to create and share their own solutions for resilience. CJRF grants focus on four interrelated issues connected which climate change: (1) Water Access; (2) Food Security; (3) Sustainable Livelihoods; and (4) Migration and Relocation. The CJRF grantmaking strategic framework prioritizes multi-year grants and grants larger than US$100 thousand. University of Applied Sciences Western Switzerland — MENA Young Scientists Mobility Grants
The “young scientists’ mobility grant” aims to develop new research partnerships and collaborations between Switzerland and MENA countries. Priority countries under this call are: Egypt, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine, Qatar, Tunisia, and the United Arab Emirates. Mobility grants can be awarded to young scientists who hold a Bachelor or Master’s degree (no PhD) and have less than 6 years of professional research experience. The call is open for activities and research visits in all scientific disciplines and fields of research. The applicant’s mobility visit should have a minimum duration of 4 weeks and with a maximum of CHF5 thousand per grant. (Note: The application form must be completed by the Swiss main applicant). São Paulo School of Advanced Science — Workshop: Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services
The São Paulo School of Advanced Science on Scenarios and Modelling on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services to Support Human Well-Being (SPSAS Scenarios) will hold a 2-week training and networking session in July 2019 on scenarios and modeling in biodiversity and ecosystem services, and its relation to human wellbeing. The Advanced School will be led by speakers from several countries. Approximately 100 applicants, 50 from Brazil and 50 from other countries will be selected to participate in the Advanced School. European Commission — Building a Water-Smart Economy and Society
The European Commission seeks project proposals (two-stage call) to attend to the growing demand for water from various economic activities and increasing stress on natural water sources. Actions should demonstrate the feasibility of a ‘water smart’ economy and society in which all available water resources are managed in such a way as to avoid water scarcity and pollution. The Commission will consider proposals in the range of €10 million to €15 million. International cooperations and legal entities established in EU Member States, Overseas Countries and Territories and Horizon 2020 associated countries (as detailed in the call) are eligible to apply under this call.
