The Dubai Municipality, in collaboration with UN Habitat, offers Best Practices Awards for outstanding contributions that demonstrate valuable contributions to sustainable urban development. The five award categories include one on urban food systems, and one on addressing climate change and reducing pollution. The competition is open to governments, nonprofits, companies, universities and individuals. Total award prizes sum up to US$1 million. Winners will be announced at the awarding ceremony of the 13th cycle in Dubai. The deadline to receive submissions is 31 August 2023. Link to the award

New Zealand Aid Program — Collaborate Pacific Fund
Collaborate Pacific aims to support effective governance, leadership, regional cooperation, and sustainable development in the Pacific. The fund supports small-scale activities in thematic priority areas: Agriculture, Climate Change, Oceans and Fisheries, Renewable Energy, and many other development priorities. Funding can cover travel (including transport, accommodation, and meals) and event costs (including hosting costs). Auckland Zoo — Small Grants Program
The Auckland Zoo’s Conservation Fund provides funding for ongoing projects or pilot programs with clear conservation value. The current round of funding will concentrate on innovative projects in Africa focusing on mitigating human-wildlife conflict that have tangible conservation outcomes for threatened wildlife. Grants are up to a maximum of NZD$5 thousand, but most grants are smaller. The application must represent a minimum of 25% of the project’s overall budget. Applications close on 30 June 2023. OpenIDEO — Climate Resiliency Challenge
The Climate Resiliency Challenge seeks organizations and teams across the globe to develop solutions that will empower frontline communities to be ready and resilient against disasters caused by climate change – in particular, wildfires, floods, and extreme weather. Global Centre on Biodiversity for Climate — Grant Program
The Global Centre on Biodiversity for Climate (GCBC) funds research into natural solutions to climate change and poverty. The GCBC makes grants that fund research into how the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity can help address climate change and improve livelihoods of some of the world’s most vulnerable populations. French Development Agency — Social and Environmental Justice
The Agence Française de Développement (AFD) accepts expressions of interest for research projects that address the contribution for the commons and citizen participation from a social and environmental justice perspective. The budget requested must not exceed €200 thousand per project. The research projects must be carried out in developing countries specified in the announcement. This call is dedicated to teams of researchers and social actors engaged both in the production of new research and in a public policy dialogue. The call is open until 23 July 2023. More here
Inter-American Development Bank — Climate Change and its Nexus with Gender and Diversity
The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) seeks research proposals that contribute to measuring and evaluating solutions for addressing climate change and promoting an inclusive transition to a greener economy. The initiative seeks to advance knowledge development regarding the existing inequalities between men and women, as well as inequalities faced by Indigenous Peoples, people of African descent, people with disabilities, and LGBTQ+ people. The fourth edition of this call focuses on the topic of climate change and its nexus with gender and diversity. Funding may range from US$20 thousand to US$100 thousand. FONTAGRO announces a contest of successful cases of innovations in Bioeconomy to identify successful experiences and lessons learned that contribute to a better understanding of the transformation of agri-food systems in Latin America and the Caribbean. International Development Research Centre — Regional Research Networks
The International Development Research Centre (IDRC) announces a call for full proposals for the selection of regional research hubs to advance skills and policies for an inclusive and sustainable future of work. This initiative supports high-quality, innovative and gender responsive research that addresses key Future of Work challenges, including climate-resilient food systems. Regional research hubs can submit budget requests of up to a maximum of CA$1.7 million. IDRC is expecting to fund 5 regional research hubs in Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, MENA and LAC. The United Nations Environment Program seeks cities interested in starting or scaling up ecosystem restoration efforts.
