The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) awards grants to support activities that improve media coverage of environmental challenges and solutions. ENJ provides €10 thousand to a single journalist network, media organization, civil society group, or academic institution in the Western Balkans (Albania, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Croatia, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, Kosovo) to support journalistic coverage of biodiversity, environmental threats, and nature-based solutions. Global Biodiversity Information Facility — Biodiversity Information for Development: Sub-Saharan Africa
The Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) invites proposals for project funding from Sub-Saharan Africa under the “Biodiversity Information for Development” program. GBIF offers support for four types of projects: (1) Institutional-level biodiversity data mobilization to strengthen institutional capacity and mobilize policy-relevant biodiversity data (maximum funding: €30 thousand); and (2) Multi-institutional biodiversity data mobilization to build or strengthen collaborations between institutions to mobilize data for research and policy addressing national or regional priorities (maximum funding: €60 thousand. World Wildlife Fund — Faculty Fellowship
The Russell E. Train Education for Nature Program provides funding support to current and aspiring university faculty that are affiliated with or currently employed at African, Asian, and Latin American and Caribbean universities. Science for People and Nature Partnership — Critical Conservation Challenges
In support of the United Nations agenda on sustainable development, the Science for People and Nature Partnership (SNAPP) aims to find solutions for problems at the interface of economic development, nature conservation, and human well-being. SNAPP operates through working groups that represent 200 institutions from more than 30 countries. SNAPP provides up to US$1 million total across 4-6 working groups. Proposals are invited from researchers and practitioners of any nationality affiliated with an academic, governmental, multilateral, or non-profit institution. Lighthouse Foundation — Coastal and Marine Conservation
The Lighthouse Foundation promotes science and research, teaching, culture, and the principles of environmentalism and international development in relation to the world’s seas and oceans. Funded partners of the Lighthouse Foundation are conservation NGOs, community NGOs, universities and educational organizations, and government organizations. There is no application form. Link
HawkWatch International — Global Raptor Research & Conservation Grant
HawkWatch International invites local researchers to apply for grants supporting research or conservation work on threatened, understudied raptor species worldwide. Applicants may request up to $3,500, with up to three grants awarded per year; prior recipients may apply for one additional year of continued funding. Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of the country where the project takes place, affiliated with a registered NGO or university there, and working on a species ranked as high-priority under HawkWatch’s own scoring system, which combines extinction risk with evolutionary distinctiveness and research neglect. Projects based in the USA, Canada, or Europe are not eligible, nor are proposals submitted in any language other than English. All grant activities must be completed within 18 months. Climate Change and Health Hub — Climate-Health Projects
The LAC Hub for Climate Change and Health (CLIMAS) supports research-backed projects that transform climate-health knowledge into practical tools, policies, and actions, focusing on three key areas: training health professionals for climate-induced emergencies and disease outbreaks. Funding is scaled by project size—from COP 250 million (small), COP 251–500 million (medium), up to COP 900 million (large)—with implementation expected to run for 12 to 24 months. Eligibility extends to consortia of 2–3 legally constituted organizations in Latin America and the Caribbean, including community-based groups, universities, research centers, or NGOs. UK PACT — Nature-Based Solutions in Kenya
The Kenya–UK PACT accepts proposals for high-impact, demand-informed Nature-Based Solutions projects that support Kenya’s just climate transition and align with national priorities. The call is open to not-for-profit organizations (including think tanks, NGOs, academic institutions, and community groups). Funding ranges from £400 thousand to £650 thousand per project. Water Research Foundation — Research Support
The Water Research Foundation (WRF) has issued a call for proposals under its Research Priority Program for nine new research projects—covering topics like microbial and chemical contamination, asset condition assessment, pathogen evaluation, microplastics monitoring, biosolids drying technologies, methane emissions, and more. Funding is up to US$400 thousand. Eligible applicants include academic institutions, research organizations, utilities, government agencies, and consulting firms. Water Research Foundation — Climate-Smart Water Solutions
The Water Research Foundation Tailored Collaboration Program is a matching research initiative designed to support utility-specific or regional challenges that research can help to solve. WRF will provide up to US$150 thousand in matching funds for each selected project. The program encourages collaboration between utilities and researchers to address pressing water sector issues.
