Prince Albert II Foundation — Strengthen Arctic and Antarctic Marine Protected Areas
The Prince Albert II Foundation accepts applications to strengthen Arctic and Antarctic marine protected areas. The Foundation seeks to better understand climate-induced changes and how these changes affect the global social, economic and environmental systems and double the efforts to protect these fragile ecosystems. Project proposals must focus on the Arctic and Antarctic marine region. Any financial support requested should not exceed 50% of the total project budget. International Development Research Centre — Strengthening Research in West Africa
The International Development Research Centre (IDRC) calls for proposals to support the strengthening of national research and innovation funding agencies in West Africa. The Science Granting Councils Initiative invites proposals from organizations (including think tanks, institutes, universities and agencies) based in Africa Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal and Sierra Leone. Organizations should have proven experience and track records in areas such as public sector science, technology and innovation; strengthening organizational capacity; and national science, among others. JRS Biodiversity Foundation — Information on Freshwater Biodiversity and Pollinator Biodiversity in Africa
The JRS Biodiversity Foundation aims to increase the access to and the use of information for biodiversity conservation and sustainable development in Sub-Saharan Africa. The current call for proposals requests multi-year projects focused on biodiversity data, knowledge, and information services related to freshwater biodiversity and pollinator biodiversity in Eastern and Southern Africa. Preference is for projects that can grow to larger scale, or that can be transferred across geographic regions or across organizational and institutional contexts. The U.S. Department of State announces the “Air Quality Management Community of Practice in Africa” program. The program seeks to build a regional community of practice to convene air quality experts to create knowledge and develop best practices to improve air quality monitoring and expand awareness. The total funding is US$440 thousand for a period of performance of up to 36 months. Swedish Institute — Academic Collaboration in the Baltic Sea Region
The Swedish Institute offers funding to Swedish universities, for projects together with their partners in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Russia and Ukraine. The aim is to strengthen the capacity for internationalization within higher education and research. The program offers two types of project funding, Seed Funding of SEK 100-300 thousand for projects with a duration of up to 12 months, and Collaboration Funding of up to SEK 1 million for the duration of 18 months. Wild Animal Initiative — Small Grants Program
Wild Animal Initiative provides grants for research projects that help us understand and improve the lives of wild animals. Small grants support innovative methods for measuring and monitoring wild animal welfare, population regulation, wildlife rehabilitation and conservation interventions. Grant size varies from US$2 thousand to US$30 thousand. The small grants program is open to anyone, although Wild Animal Initiative is especially interested in supporting postdocs and PhD students pursuing a long-term research career in the field of wild animal welfare, and researchers who have not previously included welfare considerations in their work. The Ernest du Bois Prize offers €20 thousand for doctoral studies on the theme of water availability. The awards are made to young students and engineers in Belgium who are carrying out research on the theme of water and its availability — including issues of protecting reserves, managing pollution, developing processing techniques, and others. Agropolis Fondation — Doctoral Fellowship
The Agropolis Fondation seeks to promote the agro-ecological transition by funding PhD research of young scientists. PhD research projects may focus on three main themes: Understanding the effects of climate change on agricultural systems; documenting and analyzing the measures and policies that support the conservation, and promote sustainable use of biodiversity in various agroecosystems, and ensuring sustainable food systems by moving towards more responsible production and consumption.
