Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund — Conserving the Guinean Forests of West Africa

The Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF) invites letters of inquiry for small grants (maximum budget US$50 thousand per project) in support of conservation in the Guinean forests of West Africa. Grants under this call can be made to NGOs, private enterprises, universities, and research institutes. The eligible countries are Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Liberia, and Sierra Leone. Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean — Rural World in Latin America and the Caribbean

The Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean seeks research proposals to fund up to nine research projects that contribute to understanding the main problems faced by rural societies and productive means in the economies of Latin America and the Caribbean. Three projects will be selected from those related to poverty and inequality, three from risk and climate change and sustainable development, while the remaining three will be selected from those related to rurality. Harvard Forest — Fellowship in Forest Research

The Charles Bullard Fellowship in Forest Research supports advanced research and study by individuals. The fellowships are generally awarded to individuals in mid-career from all around the world who have established themselves in academia, public service, or the private sector. Research areas include, for example, forest ecology, tree physiology, forest soils, forest resource management, conservation and biodiversity issues, forest land planning, and the arts. The Bullard Fellowship is a residential program and Fellows are expected to spend a substantial portion at either Harvard Forest in Petersham (USA) or at Harvard University in Cambridge (USA). The fellowships carry stipends of up to US$60 thousand, depending on the duration of each fellowship. International researchers receive additional support for the visa process and logistics. Irish Aid — SDG Challenge 2024

The SDG Challenge invites research teams to develop innovative solutions that contribute to SDG 2: Zero Hunger, “End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture”. Eligible partner countries are Cambodia; Laos; Palestine; Vietnam; ODA-eligible countries on the African continent; and ODA-eligible Small Island Developing States. Teams will receive up to €250 thousand to develop their idea. Workshop Support Grants of up to €5.000 are available to potential applicants to facilitate team formation and seed idea generation before applying. The application deadline is 08 October 2024. Conservation Leadership Programme — Grants for Early-Career Conservationists

The Conservation Leadership Program (CLP) makes grants to advance the leadership capacity of early-career conservationists in the developing world. Grants combine research with conservation. CLP provides support to small teams of at least three individuals. Future Conservationist Awards are up to US$15 thousand. Follow-up awards and Leadership Awards are up to US$25 thousand and US$50 thousand, respectively. CLP explains each category of award; eligibility criteria; and details on how to apply. CLP offers support to early-career conservationists living and working in low- and middle-income economies in Africa, Asia, the Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean, Eastern and South-eastern Europe, and the Middle East. Inter-American Foundation — Research Fellowship Program

The Inter-American Foundation (IAF) welcomes applicants for its new Research Fellowship Program to advance rigorous field-based research on actionable questions about community-led development in Latin America and the Caribbean. Each fellowship includes a stipend of US$20 thousand to support an individual researcher working for twelve months. Smithsonian Institution — Fellowship Program 2025

The Smithsonian Institution annually awards fellowships for independent study or research at one or more of the Smithsonian’s 19 units and research centers, including the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI). The awards include graduate student fellowships; predoctoral fellowships; postdoctoral fellowships; and senior fellowships. Stipends and allowances vary from US$8 thousand for two weeks to up to US$55 thousand per year, depending on the applicant’s experience. The fellowship program is open to qualified applicants worldwide. Applicants contact Smithsonian’s staff members (find the link in the announcement) to identify potential advisors, and to determine the feasibility of their proposed research. African Development Bank — Climate Action

The African Development Fund (ADF) recognizes climate change as a major threat to Africa. The Fund has launched a call for proposals through its Climate Action Window (CAW) specifically seeking projects that mitigate greenhouse gas emissions from agriculture, forestry, land use, and fisheries; improve water access and wastewater management; and accelerate a just energy transition. The CAW will also support projects that address nature-based solutions and aim to restore mangroves and wetlands. Funding requested for a single project or program may range between US$ 3 million to 5 million. Eligible beneficiaries are governments and government entities of ADF countries. Manomet — Conservation of Neotropical Shorebirds

The Manomet small grants program seeks to promote the conservation of shorebird species and populations breeding in Latin America and the Caribbean and build the capacity of early-career conservationists and researchers in the Neotropics. Grants of US$3,000 are available. Awards are only available to projects carried out by nationals and/or residents of countries and territories in Central and South America, Mexico, and the Caribbean. Projects should be developed in close collaboration with a local conservation agency, research institution, or non-governmental organization. The deadline for applications is 15 July 2024. Canadian International Development Research Center — IDRC Research Awards 2025

The International Development Research Center (IDRC) makes research awards to citizens and permanent residents of Canada and to citizens of developing countries (India and Kenya). The award provides for a one-year paid program of research in addition to hands-on experience in research management, grant administration, and the use of knowledge from an international perspective. Six positions are available at IDRC’s head office in Ottawa (Canada). Program areas include climate resilience and sustainable food systems; and several others. Applicants should be enrolled, or have previously completed, their masters or doctoral degrees at recognized universities.
