Explorers Club – Scott Pearlman Field Awards 2018

The Explorers Club is a multidisciplinary professional society dedicated to the advancement of field research, and to preserving the instinct to explore. The Scott Pearlman Field Awards are grants for artists, writers, filmmakers, photographers, and journalists in support of scientific expeditions sponsored by the Explorers Club. The winning candidate will receive a cash award of $10 thousand. Applicants do not have to be a member of The Explorers Club to qualify for a grant, and there are no nationality or age restrictions. U.S. National Science Foundation — Research on Food, Energy, and Water Systems

The program INFEWS (“Innovations at the Nexus of Food, Energy, and Water Systems”) aims to promote international cooperation that links scientists and engineers from a range of disciplines and organizations to solve the significant global challenges at the nexus of food, energy, and water systems. Proposals including international collaboration are encouraged when they incorporate unique resources, expertise, facilities, or sites of international partners. However, international counterparts generally should have support or obtain funding through other non-NSF sources. The deadline for pre-proposals is 26 September 2018. Link

Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund — Evaluation of Pilot Long-term Vision Exercises

The CEPF seeks applications from civil society organizations to submit proposals to conduct an evaluation of three pilot long-term vision exercises for (1) the Balkans sub-region; (2) the Indo-Burma Hotspot; and (3) the Albertine Rift and Eastern Arc Mountains sub-region. The objective of the evaluation is to inform the scope of work for future long-term vision exercises. The evaluation must be conducted during April 2018. World Bank — Public-Private Infrastructure in Water, Energy, and Transportation

The World Bank’s Public-Private Infrastructure Advisory Facility (PPIAF) welcomes submissions on topics pertaining to private-sector participation in infrastructure, public-private partnerships, and sub-national finance for energy, water, and transportation. PPIAF is looking for knowledge products that provide lessons learned or best practices which can be applied across countries and across regions. Proposals are strongly encouraged to include co-financing. Proposals with a focus on gender or climate change are also strongly encouraged. The deadline for submissions is 29 March 2018. African Union Commission — Food, Nutrition Security and Sustainable Agriculture

The African Union Commission calls for research proposals that contribute to the sustainable development of African countries and the fight against poverty under Phase II of the African Union Research Grants programme. The call supports research on: Food, Nutrition Security and Sustainable Agriculture. Selected research projects receive between US$ 500 thousand and US$ 1 million. Eligibility extends to legal entities such as organizations, research institutions, universities, and government ministries from African Union Member States or EU Member States. European Commission — Sustainable Use of Peatland and Haze Mitigation

The European Commission calls for concept notes for projects that promote sustainable management of peatlands through collective actions in ASEAN member states. Requested grants under this call for proposals must fall between €4,5 and €5 million. Eligibility extends to non-profit organisations established in a Member State of the European Union or in a Member State of the ASEAN. European Union — Training in Crop Improvement for Food Security in Africa

The EU, through its Intra-Africa Academic Mobility Scheme, provides funding to support training of graduate students at African universities. A total of 24 Masters and 12 Doctorates will be trained in the thematic areas of Plant breeding, Biotechnology, Seed science, Agronomy, and Pesticides and plant protection. The scholarship includes a subsistence allowance of €900 per month for PhD candidates and €600 for MSc candidates. Women and candidates with disabilities are particularly encouraged to apply. Australian APEC Study Centre — Women in Research 2018

The Australia – APEC Women in Research Fellowship supports female researchers from developing APEC economies to work in collaboration with partners at Australian institutions. Past fellows include several in subjects such as water resources, climate change, marine microbiology, and others related to environment. The program is open to female citizens and permanent residents in the following countries: Chile, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, Papua New Guinea, Peru, the Philippines, Thailand and Viet Nam. ETH Zurich — Exchange of Young Researchers

ETH Zurich, in Switzerland, supports the exchange of young researchers between Switzerland and China. Swiss senior researchers from universities or research institutes and from all scientific disciplines can apply to host young Chinese scholars or apply to send one of their PhD students to China to conduct research. UK Department for International Development — Research on Economic Growth in Developing Countries (Phase 3)

The IGC invites proposals with focus on delivering research and policy products to developing countries with the aim of creating jobs and reduce poverty. The topics include improving access to and quality of energy services for households and firms; rural electrification; energy efficiency; and the effects of energy consumption on health and the environment. Applications are open worldwide, although IGC’s particular countries of interest are Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Ghana, India, Liberia, Mozambique, Myanmar, Pakistan, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia.
