The Disney Conservation Fund makes grants for wildlife studies, habitat protection, and community conservation and education in critical ecosystems around the world. DCF supports projects that build on previous work, and that have the potential to contribute to long-term conservation. Eligibility extends to U.S. nonprofit organizations. Applicants from other countries need to apply in collaboration with U.S. nonprofit partners. Grants are up to US$50 thousand for projects of up to two years. Strategic Support Program for Scientific Research — Call for Research Projects in Agriculture and Health
The Strategic Support Program for Scientific Research (PASRES) of Côte d’Ivoire and the Uganda Council for Science and Technology (UNCST) launch a call for joint research projects in the fields of Agriculture and Health. Proposals for scientific research should focus on agriculture and plant health (crop diseases, livestock and fisheries) or Environment and Human Health (resilience of populations to the effects of climate change). Projects will receive US$50 thousand in funding for one year. To be eligible, research partnerships must involve researchers from both countries (one from Côte d’Ivoire and the other from Uganda). Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation — New Approaches for Inclusive Agricultural Transformation
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation seeks new approaches for strategic prioritization of agricultural development policies. Proposed solutions must be relevant and applicable in Nigeria, Tanzania, and Ethiopia. Selected early-stage projects will receive US$100 thousand and have one opportunity to apply for a follow-on award of up to US$1 million. École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne — Seed Money for Projects 2019
EPFL’s seed money grants are allocated to promote the creation and launch of new projects of scientific cooperation with partners from emerging and developing countries. The problems addressed in the proposal must be related to development issues and to the main challenges faced by the respective emerging and developing country. Project categories may include one or more areas of interest relevant to the Terra Viva Grants Directory. The maximum funding per project is CHF 20 thousand per year. Belgium’s University Commission for Development — Student Micro-Projects 2019
The student micro-project program offers students in the Wallonia region of Belgium the opportunity to set up a project in partnership with students from a developing country. Topic areas may include water resources, female empowerment, and several others. The ARES program offers financial support of up to € 15 thousand per micro-project. American Society for Microbiology — Visiting Research Professorships in Microbiology
American Society for Microbiology (ASM), in partnership with the Indo-US Science & Technology Forum (IUSSTF), announces the ASM-IUSSTF Indo-US Professorship in Microbiology. This program seeks to broaden scientific collaboration between India and the United States though travel grants that support research and teaching partnerships. A grant up to US$5 thousand is provided to cover travel costs, visa and contingencies. Funds must be matched by the host institution (note: matching grants may be in-kind contributions). Association of Field Ornithologists — Bergstrom Grants for Avian Research in the Americas
The Association of Field Ornithologists (AFO) is dedicated to the scientific study and dissemination of information about birds in their natural habitats. The Alexander Bergstrom Memorial Research Awards support avian research in the U.S./Canada and Latin America. Grants are up to US$1,500. Research Council of Norway — Arctic Field Research
The Svalbard Science Forum (SSF) promotes research activities in Svalbard and administrates funding programs to stimulate data collection and inter-disciplinary as well as international cooperation. Students and researchers can apply for arctic field grants and seed money for workshops and collaborative activities. Both Norwegian and foreign students and scientists are eligible to apply, the latter only if the project is done in close cooperation with a Norwegian institution. The deadline is 10 October 2018. Indo-U.S. Science and Technology Forum — Water Advanced Research and Innovation Fellowships
The Water Advanced Research and Innovation Fellowships fund Indian participants to gain exposure and access to research facilities in water resources at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the Daugherty Water for Food Institute. Fellowships of three to twelve months are for Indian scientists holding a PhD in water science and engineering. Internships of three to six months are for individuals currently engaged in their PhD studies in water sciences in India. The application deadline is 10 November 2018. Link
Oriental Bird Club — Bird Conservation in Asia
The OBC Conservation Fund makes grants for bird conservation in Asia. Grant-making priorities are projects that benefit globally threatened bird species; that conserve threatened bird habitats; and that are led by Asian residents. Small Conservation Awards are up to £1,500 for projects of 12-18 months, with applications before 31 March of each year. There is a special early deadline on 15 November for projects that have to begin before July. The OBC also considers special and emergency applications at any time. How to apply
