The Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS) accepts nominations for the 2022 Al-Sumait Prize in Food Security. The prize is awarded to individuals or institutions who have made significant advancement in food security and nutrition in Africa. The prize is awarded within one of three fields – Food Security, Health and Education – and has a value of US$1 million. The candidates’ research projects must be innovative and have achieved high-impact in the African continent. The Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) invites proposals that meet the needs of local communities in Tunisia. CFLI provides funding to projects that implement environment and climate action projects focusing on adaptation and mitigation, water management, and other thematic priorities. The average contribution is C$50 thousand per project (in exceptional cases, CFLI may grant up to C$100 thousand). Legacy Landscapes Fund announces its first open call for proposals. Legacy Landscapes Fund (LLF) is a grant-making institution focused on the world’s most important protected areas and their buffer zones. “Legacy Landscapes” (LL) are terrestrial landscapes covering a contiguous area of at least 200 thousand hectares (2000 km²) that are ecologically largely intact and of global significance. LLF’s Sustaining Grant program supports the LL with a $15 million grant in tranches of $1 million per year over 15 years. For its Sustaining Grants, LLF requires a minimum co-financing of $5 million. The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) invites applications for grants to implement rural youth employment opportunities. The grant program will be implemented in nine countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, for a total amount of up to US$1.2 million. The AGCO Agriculture Foundation (AAF) provides resources to implement projects that promote sustainable climate solutions for farmers and the agricultural sector which benefits economies while also strengthening community development. Climate smart agricultural projects should work towards improving farmer productivity, and as a result, livelihoods, making farms more resilient to climate impacts.
