The PKF Foundation makes grants in support of grassroots conservation, land and resource rights of indigenous and local communities, and traditional knowledge in managing natural resources. PKF’s projects focus heavily on communities in developing countries. PKF works through a network of nominators. Grant seekers approach the Foundation through these nominators. For applicants who do not know any nominators, PKF provides an email contact address. The maximum grant is €10 thousand for one or two years. U.S. Department of State — Climate Solutions and Sustainable Entrepreneurship
The U.S. Department of State announces an open competition for organizations to submit a statement of interest to carry out a program to expand the Department’s response to the climate crisis. The overall goal is to create local communities of entrepreneurs that are more market-savvy and better able to generate climate solutions. Awards range from US$50 thousand to US$260 thousand. CEZ Group — Lead 2030 Challenge for SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy)
The Lead 2030 Challenge for SDG 7 aims to identify and support youth-led enterprises that are tackling the energy divide in the worst affected countries and regions. The challenge welcomes innovations for addressing energy needs, for example, providing affordable energy to communities with limited access or clean alternative cooking fuels. The winner will receive a US$50 thousand project grant and 12 months of mentorship from a team of CEZ Group professionals. The initiative must be youth-led (founded by a person aged 18 – 30). The Ambassador’s Special Self-Help (ASSH) Program is a grants program that seeks to improve community-based natural resource management. ASSH announces an open competition for organizations in the Democratic Republic of Congo to submit applications to carry out small, community-based activities. Funding aims at assisting community groups to develop lasting, self-sustaining projects with focus on vulnerable populations. Small grants of up to US$16 thousand are available. Global Biodiversity Information Facility — Data Papers on Soil Biodiversity
The Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) announces a new call for authors to submit and publish data papers on soil biodiversity. Papers will be published in a special collection of Biodiversity Data Journal. The publisher Pensoft will waive the article processing fee (normally €650) for the first 40 accepted data paper manuscripts. The deadline to receive proposals is 22 September 2023. Dubai Municipality — Dubai International Award for Best Practices
The Dubai Municipality, in collaboration with UN Habitat, offers Best Practices Awards for outstanding contributions that demonstrate valuable contributions to sustainable urban development. The five award categories include one on urban food systems, and one on addressing climate change and reducing pollution. The competition is open to governments, nonprofits, companies, universities and individuals. Total award prizes sum up to US$1 million.
