Siemens Stiftung — Empowering People Award 2019

Siemens Stiftung sponsors the “empowering people. Award” as a means to identify and showcase relatively simple and smart technological solutions that have business potential to combat poverty in developing and emerging countries. The categories include water and waste water; energy; food and agriculture; waste management; and several others. The products or solutions to be submitted have to already be in use. The competition is open to any individual, team, organization, or enterprise from any region in the world. The top three prizes are €50 thousand, €30 thousand, and €20 thousand, respectively. Scottish Government — International Development Small Grants 2019

The Scottish Government’s International Development Small Grants Programme provides project funding in support of the government’s International Development Policy. Applications for grants are invited from incorporated not-for-profit organisations which have a presence in Scotland and an annual turnover of less than £200 thousand. Project grants should focus on any of Malawi, Rwanda, or Zambia in themes of food security; renewable energy; climate change; water; and others. Grants for capacity building and feasibility studies will be accepted in relation to any country designated as medium/low on the UN’s Human Development Index — but with priority for Malawi, Rwanda, and Zambia. Awards are a maximum of £60 thousand for project grants over three years, or a maximum of £10 thousand for feasibility and capacity building grants over one year. International Fund for Agricultural Development — Climate-smart Aquaculture

IFAD seeks proposals for grants to implement a project on “Advancing Technologies and Capacity Building for Climate-smart Aquaculture”. The IFAD will support adaptive research, technology transfer and piloting climate smart aquaculture technologies worldwide. Capacity building in technologies for national aquaculture research will be supported in the targeted countries Eritrea, Ethiopia and Egypt. The IFAD grant amount under this call is up to US$1 million. The recipient of this grant can be an inter-governmental organization, a non-profit organization, an university or a private sector entity. Hindustan Unilever Foundation — India’s Water Footprint in Agriculture

The Hindustan Unilever Foundation (HUF) supports projects that offer solutions for highly efficient use of water in agriculture. The idea is to transform India’s water footprint in agriculture from a highly inefficient state to a more sustainable one. Interested organisations are encouraged to apply for long term projects (over 4 – 5 years), that can be initially incubated for 18-24-months. U.S. Department of State — YSEALI Regional Workshop: Indonesia

The Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) is a program of the U.S. government to support bright young leaders ages 18-35 in the ASEAN countries. The Consulate General Surabaya announces an open competition for a cooperative agreement to develop and implement a five-day workshop in Bali, Indonesia connecting social enterprises and startup incubators interested in responding to environmental challenges in Southeast Asia. For the implementation of the workshop funding of US$150 thousand is available. Eligibility extends to U.S. and foreign non-profit organizations and universities. Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council — Food & Nutrition Research for Health in the Developing World

The Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) supports collaborative research proposals to address agriculture-nutrition-health challenges in the developing world. The purpose of this programme is to develop new strategies to address the challenges in food, nutrition and health by supporting collaborative research of scientists in the UK and partners in developing countries.The total budget should not exceed £2 million for two years. European Commission — Sustainable Agricultural Diversification

The program Boosting Agriculture and Food Security (BAFS) aims to reduce poverty and food insecurity in Sierra Leone through better governance and increased agricultural productivity and diversification. A maximum of three grants of €3 million will be awarded under this program. Eligibility extends to non-profit organizations established in a Member State of the European Union or in Sierra Leone. For non-Sierra Leonean applicants, co-applications with at least one Sierra Leonean non-profit making organisation will be an added advantage. The KEEN Effect — Critical Coastlines Grant Program

The Critical Coastlines Grant Program funds community-based or non-profit organizations from around the world working to improve the resilience of coastal ecosystems. Threats relevant to this program include ecosystem collapse, climate change, rising sea levels, ocean pollution, ocean acidification, overfishing, and natural disasters. Selected winners receive US$10 thousand in support of their project. Eligibility extends to organizations and individuals. The application deadline is 30 September 2018. GSMA — Mobile for Humanitarian Innovation Fund

The GSMA Mobile for Humanitarian Innovation Fund seeks innovations in the use of mobile technology to address humanitarian challenges. This funding round will test new technical solutions and catalyse ideas to improve food security and adaptation/resilience to climate change, among others. Projects should be implemented in Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia-Pacific, the Middle East and North Africa, or Latin America. U.S. Department of State — Mapping and Analysis of Illegally Harvested Timber and Forest Products

The U.S. Department of State announces a funding opportunity for mapping and analysis of illegally harvested timber and forest products in global trade for developing countries.
