The Breakthrough Institute supports Generation Fellows who contribute writing and research to one of four policy programs at the Breakthrough Institute: Energy; Conservation; or Food and Farming. The program operates during ten weeks from June through August. Fellows receive US$600 per week. The Research Partnership Grants support research projects with collaborating institutions in MENA countries. The Leading House MENA accepts grant applications solely from applicants. The Swiss applicant needs to have a proposed or an ongoing research project with an institutional partner in the MENA region. The maximum grant amount per project is CHF15 thousand. The United Nations World Wildlife Day organizes an international film showcase along the theme of “Recovering key species for ecosystem restoration”. Organizers seek films that explore the threats to wild fauna and flora, their central importance for their habitats and ecosystems and for the communities who live near them, and initiatives to conserve them. GSMA — Innovation Fund for Climate Resilience and Adaptation
GSMA Innovation Fund for Climate Resilience and Adaptation seeks to help accelerate the testing, adoption and scalability of digital innovations that enable the world’s most vulnerable populations to adapt to the negative impacts of climate change. GSMA aims to test innovations that can increase the capacity of low-income and vulnerable communities to adapt, and develop approaches or business models that can be scaled to build climate resilience and adaptation. Successful projects will receive an equity-free grant of between £100 thousand and £250 thousand to scale their innovation over a 15 to 18 month period. Start-ups, small and medium enterprises and social enterprises in Africa, Asia-Pacific, the Caribbean, Latin America and Eastern Europe are eligible to apply. Applications close on 09 January 2022. The UK-ASEAN Institutional Links Early Career Researchers (ILECR) Scheme provides seed funding to senior researchers from higher education institutions in the UK and partner countries – Brunei, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand. Subject areas for the collaborative research include local development challenges such as agritech and biodiversity, among others. Western Indian Ocean Marine Science Association — Ocean Science for Sustainability Development
The Western Indian Ocean Marine Science Association (WIOMSA), and partners, offer a shipboard fellowship opportunity onboard the research vessel R/V Marion Dufresne during 2022 (29 June – 22 July). Ten early-career scientists and postgraduate students involved in oceanographic work at institutions in the Western Indian Ocean will be selected to participate in the Floating University project. The program is primarily open to postgraduate students (PhD or MSc) involved in oceanographic work, marine sciences, and maritime studies at institutions in Comoros, Kenya, Mauritius, Madagascar, Mozambique, South Africa, Seychelles Somali, and Tanzania. The U.S. Ambassador’s Special Self-Help Fund (SSH) announces an open competition for organizations to submit applications to carry out a small, community-based development program. The program awards grants to non-profit, community-based organizations to implement short-term (12-month), small-scale (between US$2,500 and US$8,000) development projects that include significant community involvement. Priority consideration is given to income generating projects that improve basic economic or social conditions at the village level, which may include projects in sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, and access to clean water and sanitation.
