International Center for Journalists — Workshop for Latin American Journalists

The Douglas Tweedale Memorial Fellowship will be awarded to two Latin American journalists who seek to improve their environmental reporting skills. The two-week professional program will take place in Lima (Peru). Participants will have appointments with area investigative journalists, environmental experts, and short embeds with media outlets specializing in environmental coverage. UN-Habitat — Waste to Wealth

UN-Habitat calls for innovative solutions and best practices that transform waste to wealth. Applicants may submit technologies, solutions, ideas, or approaches that change the way we think about, use and treat waste (solid, liquid, domestic, industrial and commercial). The best 20 submissions will be published and showcased as part of World Habitat Day. Applications are open to everyone who is passionate about solving the challenges of waste management. British Council — Newton PhD Scholarships Philippines

The aim of the Newton PhD Program offers full-time PhD scholarships for Filipino researchers at a UK higher education institution. The project must fall within the following priority areas (relevant to the Terra Viva Grants Directory): Improving environmental resilience; Improving energy security; Agritech; among other thematic areas. For an applicant to be considered for the DOST-Newton PhD Scholarship, the applicant must be a Filipino Citizen and have already been accepted to a PhD program in the UK. The scholarship will cover travel costs, monthly accommodation and living allowance, tuition fees, and a grant for consumables (up to a maximum of £3 thousand per year). U.S. Department of State — YSEALI Bootcamp: Malaysia

The U.S. Embassy in Kuala Lumpur announces a competition for organizations to submit applications to implement a series of bootcamp programs on youth empowerment and leadership for members of the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) in higher education institutions throughout Malaysia. The organization will receive up to US$100 thousand for the implementation of several workshops (min. 2 days each) aimed at participants ages 18-35 years. Proposed programs should be completed within 12 months. Malaysian institutions, organizations, individuals, U.S. or local non-profit organizations (including think tanks) are eligible to apply. Wilson Center — Addressing Environmental Challenges in the Americas

The Wilson Center Latin America Fellowship Program 2019/2020 seeks applications to conduct research about and propose concrete solutions to the range of environmental threats faced by countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. The residential fellowship will take place at the Wilson Center in Washington, D.C. (USA). Fellows are provided with a monthly stipend for a stay of 4-6 months. Applicants must be citizens of a Latin American or Caribbean country and have an undergraduate or graduate degree and a minimum of five years of relevant work experience. Fondation Carmignac — Photojournalism Award 2019

The Carmignac Photojournalism Award aims to support a journalistic and photographic project which shows the human, social and ecological challenges the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) faces today. The contest is open to photojournalism projects that explore humanitarian issues, human-wildlife conflicts, the exploitation of natural resources (including mining, freshwater, deforestation), and other conflicts relevant to the DR Congo. The winner will receive a €50 thousand grant to carry out a 6-month field report. Submissions will be received until 16 October 2019. More

Swiss Re Foundation — Leadership Prize for Building Resilient Communities

The Swiss Re Foundation accepts applications for the 2020 Entrepreneurs for Resilience Award. The Award recognizes entrepreneurial initiatives that take innovative approaches to building resilient societies and realizing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The 2020 award will focus on innovative solutions for climate-smart agriculture, including crop and livestock production as well as aquaculture. The total prize money of US$700 thousand is divided among three winners. Applicants for the award should ideally operate in low-income communities. Southeast Asian Regional Centre for Tropical Biology — Research Proposals 2020

The Southeast Asian Regional Centre for Tropical Biology (SEAMEO BIOTROP) welcomes research proposals in the themes “Food Sovereignty, Energy Resilience, Ecosystem Restoration, Climate Change and Disaster Mitigation, and Sustainable Use and Protection of Local Biodiversity in Southeast Asia”. Research proposals should have a budget under Rp100 million and must be implemented within a 9-month period. The call for proposals is open to Indonesian nationals. National Geographic Society — Amazon Conservation Capacity

The National Geographic Society supports projects that empower community-based organizations and Indigenous Peoples groups engaged in forest conservation and sustainable forest management. This call supports the development and implementation of conservation programs, capacity building activities, and networking initiatives focused on achieving conservation objectives. Community projects with focus on ecotourism or climate-smart forest management practices are welcome. Applicants may request up to US$150 thousand.
