Secretariat of the Southern African Development Community — Media Awards

The Secretariat of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) announces the 2022 SADC Media Awards competition in the four categories: Photo, Print, Television and Radio Journalism. The themes of the entries to be submitted for the competition must be on issues and activities promoting Regional Integration in the SADC region, i.e. development, water, culture, agriculture, etc. The first prize winner in each category receives US$2,500 and the runner-up receives US$1000. University of California at Berkeley — Food and Farming Journalism Fellowship

The UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism offers ten US$10 thousand postgraduate Food and Farming Journalism Fellowships. The fellowship is aimed at early and mid-career journalists who cover print and audio stories under the rubric of food systems: agricultural policy, food science, rural and urban farming, agriculture and the environment, food and climate change, etc. Preference is given to U.S. focused stories, but UC Berkeley will also consider international stories with a strong U.S. angle or connection. Accelerate2030 — Entrepreneurship and Sustainable Development

Accelerate2030 supports entrepreneurs from developing and emerging markets to scale their solutions for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Accelerate2030 is a Scale Readiness Program that provides support based on specific needs, such as access to experts, mentors, and partners. While Accelerate2030 supports solutions to any SDGs, the program is particularly looking for solutions related to the Circular Economy, access to Good Health and Wellbeing and Clean Water. Children’s Climate Foundation — Children’s Climate Prize

The Children’s Climate Prize invites innovative and groundbreaking ideas and solutions on the issue of climate change. The prize is awarded to children aged 12-17 who have made extraordinary efforts for the climate and environment. The winners will be invited to Sweden and receive prize money of SEK 100 thousand to continue to develop their projects. Individuals, groups or organizations can nominate themselves or be nominated by someone else. Nominations from all over the world are welcome. The deadline is 15 May 2022. Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture — Scholarship Program for Global Agriculture Technology and Genomic Science

The NTU-SEARCA Joint Scholarship Program for Global Agriculture Technology and Genomic Science (Global ATGS) accepts applications for a Master Program at the National Taiwan University (NTU). The goal of Global ATGS is to train international academic and industrial leaders in advanced agriculture. The main fields of this program are digital agriculture, genomics, and modern breeding science. The scholarship award duration is two years and covers tuition fees, travel, and living expenses of students from SEAMEO member countries. The deadline is 31 December 2021. Link

Earth Journalism Network — Story Grants on Green Recovery

The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) offers reporting grants to support the production of in-depth or investigative stories that will highlight progress toward a post-pandemic “green recovery”. EJN welcomes stories that engage audiences to better understand the commitments (or lack thereof) from governments, administrations, corporations and other authorities to progress towards a green, sustainable future. EJN expects to award 10 grants with an average grant of £1,100. Applications are open to journalists and other expert media practitioners with experience in investigative reporting and covering environment and/or issues related to climate. Cisco — Global Problem Solver Challenge 2022

Cisco invites submissions of innovative technology solutions from student entrepreneurs around the world that solve the world’s most pressing social and environmental problems. The Challenge is open to students and recent alumni from any college or university. A total of US$1 million in prize money will be awarded for the adoption and development of breakthrough technologies, products, and services that drive economic development or solve social and environmental problems. One Young World — Afri-Plastics Challenge

One Young World seeks applications for Afri-Plastics Challenge. The challenge supports the development of early-stage products, technology and/or services that encourage the reduction or elimination of plastic usage across Sub-Saharan Africa. 10 selected finalists will receive a grant of £75 thousand to support in the development and validation of their solutions. Applicants can be formally constituted and operating in Sub-Saharan Africa as either a registered business or NGO, but applications from individuals and community groups will also be accepted. United Nations — World Wildlife Day Film Showcase

The United Nations World Wildlife Day organizes an international film showcase along the theme of “Recovering key species for ecosystem restoration”. Organizers seek films that explore the threats to wild fauna and flora, their central importance for their habitats and ecosystems and for the communities who live near them, and initiatives to conserve them. Western Indian Ocean Marine Science Association — Ocean Science for Sustainability Development

The Western Indian Ocean Marine Science Association (WIOMSA), and partners, offer a shipboard fellowship opportunity onboard the research vessel R/V Marion Dufresne during 2022 (29 June – 22 July). Ten early-career scientists and postgraduate students involved in oceanographic work at institutions in the Western Indian Ocean will be selected to participate in the Floating University project. The program is primarily open to postgraduate students (PhD or MSc) involved in oceanographic work, marine sciences, and maritime studies at institutions in Comoros, Kenya, Mauritius, Madagascar, Mozambique, South Africa, Seychelles Somali, and Tanzania.
