Research projects should produce knowledge which facilitates the scaling and financing of socially-transformative climate action, focussing on the resilience and livelihoods of the most vulnerable communities in the developing world. The Applicant must be a research-oriented organization from academia, the private or public sector (e.g., university, government department, NGO) based in Asia, Africa or Latin America. Christensen Fund — Grants for Biodiversity and Cultural Diversity
The Christensen Fund makes grants to indigenous-led and community-based organizations for projects that combine biodiversity with cultural diversity. Pre-proposals are accepted for consideration in the following programs: African Rift Valley; Central Asia; Northwest Mexico; Global; and San Francisco Bay Area. Australian APEC Study Centre — Women in Research 2018
The Australia – APEC Women in Research Fellowship supports female researchers from developing APEC economies to work in collaboration with partners at Australian institutions. Past fellows include several in subjects such as water resources, climate change, marine microbiology, and others related to environment. The program is open to female citizens and permanent residents in the following countries: Chile, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, Papua New Guinea, Peru, the Philippines, Thailand and Viet Nam. ETH Zurich, in Switzerland, supports the exchange of young researchers between Switzerland and China. Swiss senior researchers from universities or research institutes and from all scientific disciplines can apply to host young Chinese scholars or apply to send one of their PhD students to China to conduct research. European Energy Community — Summer School 2018
The Energy Community aims to extend the EU internal energy market to South East Europe and beyond. The Secretariat of the Energy Community announces the 3rd Energy Community Summer School that will take place in Croatia in August-September 2018. The Secretariat welcomes applications from postgraduate students, researchers in energy-related disciplines, and young professionals from government institutions, companies, think tanks, and NGOs in the region of the Energy Community. The non-EU members of the Energy Community include Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Kosovo, FYR of Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Serbia, Ukraine, and Turkey. UNESCO Institute for Water Education — Masters Fellowships
Located in the Netherlands, UNESCO-IHE offers six scholarships for the Water Cooperation and Diplomacy master’s programme. The objective of the program is to train future water managers and other professionals to address competition over water. Eligibility extends to existing and future water professionals from Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. The scholarship will cover educational fees, however, successful applicants will be required to fund up to approximately US$5 thousand for living costs and flights. UK Government — Sustainable Forestry
The Forest Governance, Markets and Climate (FGMC) programme will provide grants for projects that support governance and market reforms that reduce the illegal use of forest resources. Projects should focus on eliminating illegal logging, promoting legal trade and ensuring the rights and benefits for poor people, local communities and indigenous people who depend on forests for their livelihoods. Geographical focus is South East / East Asia and the Mekong region (Indonesia, Myanmar and China), West Africa (Ghana, Liberia), Congo Basin (Republic of Congo, Cameroon) and Guyana. Eligible organisations are non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and UK-based non-profit organisations. Funding for projects varies from £500 thousand to £1 million. The Asian Institute of Technology invites applications for the Loom Nam Khong Pijai Scholarships for masters degree programs in infrastructure development; energy technology; oil, gas, and natural resources development; and environmental engineering and management. Eligibility extends to nationals of Thailand, Myanmar, Lao PDR, Cambodia, Vietnam and China (Yunnan and Guangxi Provinces). Each scholarship covers tuition and registration fees, accommodation, and a bursary for living expenses at AIT‘s residential campus in Thailand for the 22 months of the masters program. Oriental Bird Club — Bird Conservation in Asia
The OBC Conservation Fund makes grants for bird conservation in Asia. Grant-making priorities are projects that benefit globally threatened bird species; that conserve threatened bird habitats; and that are led by Asian residents. Small Conservation Awards are up to £1,500 for projects of 12-18 months, with applications before 31 March of each year. There is a special early deadline on 15 November for projects that have to begin before July. The OBC also considers special and emergency applications at any time. How to apply
